

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland women's tennis team travels to the Sunshine State to play four consecutive matches against Bethune Cookman, Stetson, Florida A&M and Florida Atlantic. The Golden Grizzlies and Wildcats play on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at the City Island Tennis Courts at 10 a.m. followed by the Hatters on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center at 10 a.m.

Oakland then travels to the USTA (United States Tennis Association) National Campus in Orlando, Fla. for a match against the Rattlers of Florida A&M on Saturday, Feb. 28 at noon. The Golden Grizzlies conclude the road swing at the FAU Tennis Complex against the Owls on Sunday, Feb. 29 at 11:30 a.m.

Notes:
- Oakland is 3-2 overall going 1-1 two weeks ago after defeating Findlay 7-0 (2/15) and falling 7-0 at Ball State (2/16).

- Against Findlay, the Golden Grizzlies went a perfect 6-0 in singles play with five of six matches being won in straight sets. After Thielman won 6-3, 6-1 over Samantha Sweet at No. 1 singles, Patel rallied from a set down to defeat Luciana Pereyra, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Kurz had no problem with Eliza Kirov, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3 singles while
Samantha Galloway took out Madison Arquette, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. At the No. 5 spot,
Chelsea Dzenga also grinded out a 6-4, 7-5 win over Cristina Nieto while
Emma Hultqvist held off Kayley Gimbel, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 6 singles.

- Ball State was the third school from the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Oakland has played this season. After dropping a hard fought 4-3 decision to Western Michigan, the Golden Grizzlies responded with a 5-2 road win over Akron and 6-1 home victory against Toledo.

- Against Toledo, Oakland took a 1-0 lead after earning the doubles point as the No. 2 tandem of
Darya Maltseva and
Alexandra Whall defeated Sloane Teske and Patty Panta, 7-5.
Nirva Patel and
Aarja Chakraborty also cruised to a 6-0 victory in the No. 3 slot over Zina Mehikic and Laura Moera. The Golden Grizzlies then won five of the six singles matches en route to their second consecutive win.

- After dropping the double point against Akron, Oakland answered as
Ava Thielman, Patel,
Victoria Kurz, Chakraborty and
Samantha Galloway won five of the six singles matches to secure the win.

- For the second consecutive season, Oakland was selected to finish third in the 2020 Horizon League women's tennis preseason poll. The Golden Grizzlies also received two first place votes.
