- 2020 spring sport competition was canceled due to COVID-19 Pandemic
- Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving wins its 42nd (men) and 26th (women) consecutive league titles.
- The women's cross country team won the fourth Horizon League title in program history
- Maggie Schneider won the 6K with a time of 19:45.1 becoming the first student-athlete in Horizon League history to win three consecutive titles and was named Female Athlete of the Year. Schneider also earned All-League First Team honers and her three-peat marked the fourth consecutive year an Oakland student-athlete has won the women's individual title
- Maggie Schneider closed out her senior season placing 113th with a time of 21:19.6 at the 2019 NCAA Cross Country National Championships in Terre Haute, Ind.
- Maggie Schneider became the second Oakland student-athlete to qualify for Nationals after placing 20th at NCAA Great Lakes Regionals with a time of 20:52.9.
- Connor Goetz (24:06.7) used a late kick to edge Wright State's Nathan Dunn (24:07.0) at the finish line to win the men's 8K individual title helping the men's team to a runner-up finish. Goetz was named Male Athlete of the Year and earned All-League First-Team Honors
- Head Coach Paul Rice was named women's cross country Coach of the Year.

- Oakland captured its sixth-consecutive Metro Series over Detroit Mercy by a score of 15-1.
- The Oakland men's and women's soccer teams were recognized for their commitment to academic and athletic success by earning the 2018-19 United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award. This marks the ninth consecutive year (11th overall) the women's team has received this award and seventh consecutive year (10th overall) and for the men. The women's team posted an overall 3.36 GPA while the men's team earned a 3.06 GPA. Oakland was among an elite group across all NCAA divisions to recognize both its men's and women's programs.

- Steve Waterfield named Director of Athletics on July 24, 2018.
- Oakland captured its fifth-consecutive Metro Series over Detroit Mercy by a score of 30-6.
- The Oakland Women's Cross Country, Women's Golf and Women's Volleyball teams all received Academic Progress Rates (APR) Public Recognition Awards by the NCAA for producing scores in the top 10 percent in their respective sports.
- The men's golf and women's tennis teams were recognized as the Horizon League Raise Your Sights award winners, which recognizes the top academic male and female team from each Horizon League institution.
- The men's basketball team hosted rival Detroit Mercy on Feb. 23 and set a new O'rena record crowd of 4,141, surpassing the previous record set in 2017.
- The men's and women's cross country teams competed the 2018 NCAA Great Lakes Regional

- The men's swimming and diving team finished sixth and the women's team finished ninth at the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America National Invitational Championship in Cleveland, Ohio.
- Joe Smith, Jordan Smith and Bernie Turchi all qualified for the NCAA Zone-C Diving Meet held at Purdue University.
- Track and field student-athlete Maggie Schneider selected as the GEICO Horizon League Spring Scholar-Athletes of the Season

- In her first career tournament win and in her final event, senior Maddelyn Zack became the first Oakland women's golfer to claim an individual tournament title at the Horizon League Championship.
- The women's tennis team won its first league tournament match in program history against rival Detroit Mercy in a thrilling 4-3 come-from-behind fashion at the Horizon League Championship Tournament.
- Ava Thielman was named the 2019 Horizon League Player of the Year, becoming the program's first player of the year.
- The volleyball team welcomed LSU for a home match on Sept. 8, the first SEC school to visit the O'rena. The Golden Grizzlies drew a home crowd of 1,042, the second-highest attendance in its history.
2017-18
- Won fourth straight McCafferty Trophy, awarded to the Horizon League's all-sports champion.
- The four consecutive titles gave the Golden Grizzlies the second-longest winning streak in Horizon League history.
- Oakland became the first current Horizon League school to win four straight titles.
- The Oakland men's and women's swimming and diving, women's cross country, women's golf and volleyball teams all received Academic Progress Rates (APR) Public Recognition Awards by the NCAA for producing scores in the top 10 percent in their respective sports. The five teams are the most for Oakland in one multiyear APR report, breaking last year's previous record of four.
- Oakland captured its fourth-straight Metro Series title over Detroit Mercy by a dominating score of 31-1. The Golden Grizzlies earned points by defeating or finishing ahead of Detroit Mercy in 17-of-18 competitions this season.
- On Jan. 10, 2018, Director of Athletics Jeff Konya announced he accepted the Director of Athletics position at Northeastern University.
- Oakland partners with ScoreVision to replace the current video board and scoreboards. A new and larger state-of-the-art digital LED jumbotron screen was installed in the O'rena, as well as corner scoreboards with new LED displays.
- Oakland unveils its new #WEARtheBEAR Podcast to highlight each of its varsity programs by featuring interviews and news from coaches, student-athletes and athletics administration.
- Oakland University was one of five Division I schools in the nation to be selected by the National Hockey League and National Hockey Players Association to evaluate the possibility of adding hockey as a varsity sport.
- Oakland Baseball's Jake Lee was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in the ninth round (pick 271) of the 2018 Major League Baseball (MLB) draft.
- Former Oakland Golden Grizzly pitcher Tyler Palm signs with Minnesota Twins organization.
- Men's Basketball player Kendrick Nunn agreed to a partially guaranteed deal with the defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors.
- Nunn was named Horizon League Player of the Year.
- Nunn selected to the Lou Henson All-America list and named a Jerry West Award finalist.
- Men's Basketball Head Coach Greg Kampe earns his 600th win, becoming the 15th active Division I coach to reach the milestone on Feb. 16, 2018 at Cleveland State.
- The men's basketball team battled No. 2 Michigan State at Little Caesars Arena, and at the time, drew the largest crowd in the history of LCA at 20,695 .
- Men's basketball appeared in a Horizon League-best five nationally-televised games on ESPN2 and ESPNU.
- Oakland celebrated longtime athletic trainer Tom Ford, who stepped away from his duties in May 2017 after being diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. The Golden Grizzlies put his name on the court in the O'rena near the seat he sat for 30 years.
- For the first time in program history, the men's cross country team had three runners earn All-Region honors as seniors Bryce Stroede (31.25.0), Jacob Bowman (31:28.8) and Andrew Bowman (31:29.5) finished 21st, 22nd and 23rd respectively in the 10K at the 2017 NCAA Great Lakes Regional. The men's team placed 11th overall matching its best finish in school history.
- The men's and women's cross country teams swept the Horizon League championships with the women's team becoming just the third school in Horizon League history to win three consecutive championships since Butler (2009-11).
- Maggie Schneider captured the women's 6K title with a time of 21:53.20 and was named Athlete of the Year.
- Recent Oakland men's golfer graduate Jake Kneen won the 101st Michigan Open Championship at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa, becoming just the sixth amateur to win the state Open championship and just the second in the last 43 years.
- Kneen was named Horizon League Men's Golfer of the Year.
- Nick Pumford named Horizon League Coach of the Year.
- Pumford was recognized by Golf Digest as one of the leading golf instructors in the country and was just one of five coaches in the country to receive the honor. By a vote of Pumford's peers, he has been recognized as Golf Digest's Best Teachers by State for 2017-18.
- The men's golf and volleyball teams were recognized as the Horizon League Raise Your Sights award winners, which recognizes the top academic male and female team from each Horizon League institution.
- The men's golf team was named to the Golf Coaches Association of America All-Academic List.
- Men's soccer earned two wins over Big Ten opponents, the first, a a 2-1 win at No. 20 Michigan, the first win over a ranked opponent since 2014. The second, a 1-0 win over Ohio State in Rochester.
- Head Coach Eric Pogue and the men's soccer team are proud to announce the signing of Alex VanHolder as an honorary team member in conjunction with Draft Day and Team IMPACT.
- Joe Smith placed 18th at the 2018 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in the 1-meter board in Minneapolis, Minn. Smith was a mere four points away from making the consolation finals and was the first male diver in Oakland history to qualify for the NCAA Division I Championships.
- The men's and women's swimming and diving teams claimed their 40th (men) and (24th) straight league titles.
- Sydney McDowell named Women's Freshman of the Year and Grace Shinske named Women's Swimmer of the Meet.
- Rudy Aguilar named Men's Freshman of the Year, Joe Smith named Men's Diver of the Meet and Larry Albright named Men's Diving Coach of the Year.
- Oakland swimmer Ayrton Kasemets competed for the Estonian team at the 2017 University Games held in Tapei, Taiwan.
- Andrew Bowman becomes the first Oakland track and field student-athlete to earn second team All-American honors after finishing 14th in the 3000m steeplechase at the NCAA Track and Field Championships.
- Andrew Bowman becomes the third student-athlete in Oakland history to qualify for the NCAA Championships.

- The softball team advanced to the league tournament title game against No. 1 seed UIC. In game one of the double elimination series, Oakland defeated the Flames 7-3 but fell to the Flames in a tightly-contested 3-1 loss in a winner-take-all game two. It marked just the fifth time in program history Oakland advanced to the conference tournament title game.
