WEEK IN REVIEW:
Oakland opened Horizon League play with a clean two-game home sweep over UIC.

GAME 1 VS UIC: Kahlaijah Dean poured in a game-high 28 points, just missing her career-high of 30, while Jalisha Terry added all of her 13 points in the fourth quarter capped off with a clutch 3-pointer with 45 seconds remaining to move Oakland ahead for good as the Golden Grizzlies held on for a 76-70 Horizon League opening win over UIC on Saturday.
 
Dean also grabbed eight rebounds with five assists and four steals while going 9-for-12 from the free-throw line while Breanne Beatty chipped in with eight points followed by Chloe Guingrich with seven points and seven rebounds.
  GAME 2 VS UIC: Brianna Breedy posted a career-high 16 points hitting a perfect 3-for-3 from behind the arc while going 5-for-6 from the free-throw line to lead Oakland to a series sweep over UIC in Horizon League play on Sunday. Chloe Guingrich and Alona Blackwell each reached double figures with 12 and 11 points respectively.
 
Kahlaijah Dean added eight points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds along with Autumn Kissman. Sydney Gouard had seven points with seven rebounds while freshman Lamariyee Williams recorded her first collegiate points chipping in with six. Kayla Luchenbach also added six points while Jalisha Terry and Kissman each had five points.
 
UP NEXT – TWO GAMES ROAD SWING AT WRIGHT STATE, DEC 19-20:
Wright State leads the all-time series against Oakland, 17-1, winning the last 16 consecutive meetings. The Raiders were picked to finish third in the Horizon League Pre-Season Poll and are led by junior guard and Pre-Season All-Horizon League First Team selection Angel Baker who is tops on the team in scoring (12.8 ppg) and assists (3.5 apg). Senior center Tyler Frierson leads the team in rebounds (8.0 rpg).

Lawrence Tech senior Jason Ross Jr. is handling play-by-play duties for the women's basketball team during the 2020-21 season. On Dec. 14, Ross Jr. was selected by the Black Play-by-Play Fund as one of four recipients for the inaugural scholarship and grant for the Spring 2021 semester.
 
The Black Play-by-play Fund is an official 501(c)(3) established fund founded by Adam Giardino in June 2020 with a mission to push the play-by-play industry to more closely reflect the country as a whole.

Hometown: Chesapeake, Va.
Women's Basketball Accomplishments:
- Started in 87-of-118 career games averaging 7.4 ppg and 3.5 assists per-game
- Ranked third on the team total rebounds (103, 3.4 rpg) and scored in double figures eight times as a senior
- Started in 19-of-28 games scoring in double digits six times as a junior and posted 15 pts off the bench in upset win over GB (3/5)
- Started in all 30 games as s sophomore and led team with 13.2 ppg in league play which ranked 11th in the Horizon League

Life after Oakland…
After graduating from Oakland, Nola started her own clothing line called GTS - Grind To Shine.

Where did the name Grind To Shine come from?
"The brand name Grind To Shine comes from having the mindset of wanting to work (grind) hard and wanting to overcome situations in life. Rather that's losing sleep or missing out on fun to study for school or putting in extra work on the field or in the gym to become a better athlete. Setting goals in life and having the willpower to work towards them is crucial. To be successful (shine) you have to be prepared to go through a process to reach it."
 
What was your inspiration for starting your clothing company and how it has impacted your community?
"Grind To Shine was a personal plan turned into a brand with the mission to lead and inspire others through streetwear and athletic wear."
 
"GTS has impacted our community's by creating a positive movement and setting an example others. Our vision is Grind To Shine Clothing Brand will be known for encouraging people around the world. We want others to know if you're working towards a goal, you must work as hard as you can to make your vision a reality. With just a few years of our establishment, GTS has been sold to various states in the US and to multiple countries worldwide. We're dedicated to continue to grow and improve the brand and keep making a difference in the world."
 
How Oakland University has impacted her life…
"Oakland has impacted my life by preparing me to enter the business world. I have grown and become an independent woman who can take on any challenge. I am enjoying the process of becoming an entrepreneur."
 
What is means being a member of the Oakland basketball family…
"I have gained lifelong friend ships and connections that I still cherish today. I enjoyed being on Oakland's campus and the staff was always amazing. Thank you for everything Oakland! #GOLDENGRIZZLIES 🐻❤️
