Women's Basketball Enters Final Stretch of Regular Season Against Mastodons and Colonials

Rochester, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies enter their final four games of the regular season, playing a pair of games this week as they travel to Purdue Fort Wayne before hosting Robert Morris.
Oakland (8-18, 5-11 HL) is looking to catch fire at the right time to close the season. They currently sit in ninth place in the Horizon League and are looking to halt a five-game losing skid.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 18 at PURDUE FORT WAYNE | 7 PM | ESPN+

The Mastodons host the Golden Grizzlies in a midweek matchup. PFW (16-10, 6-10 HL) is in second place in the conference standings.

Despite battling with Youngstown State for a possible second-place spot in the Horizon League Championship, the Mastodons have lost two of their last three games. They snapped a two-game losing streak last time out, dismantling Detroit Mercy 84-68 on Feb. 14.

PFW has the top offense in the Horizon League, leading the conference in points per game (71.2) and field goal percentage (.443). They are led by the league's leading scorer, Alana Nelson, whose 16.6 ppg, 60 made threes, and .411 three-point percentage all rank as the best marks in the conference. Oakland will look to contain Nelson, who tallied 24 points in the last meeting between the two teams.

Oakland and the Mastodons have met 26 times, splitting the all-time series with 13 wins each. The Golden Grizzlies, however, are looking for their first win against PFW since 2022. In their matchup earlier this season, the Mastodons earned a victory in Rochester on Jan. 2. In that contest, Lianna Baxter led Oakland's charge with a 15-point, six-rebound performance.

SATURDAY, FEB. 21 vs. ROBERT MORRIS | 2 PM | ESPN+

Oakland hosts the Colonials for Senior Day, as the Golden Grizzlies celebrate the careers of seniors Filippa Goula, Kyra Lawrence, and Aalyssa Rogers.

RMU (16-10, 9-8 HL) has slid in the conference standings after once sitting as high as second place and now holds the No. 6 seed. The Colonials have also struggled entering the week, losing three of their last four games, including a 57-52 loss to Cleveland State on Feb. 14.

The Colonials have struggled from the three-point line all season, ranking second-to-last in three-point percentage (.265) and last in total made threes (113). This was evident in the teams' last head-to-head meeting in December, when Oakland secured a gritty 61-58 road win.

Aislin Malcom is RMU's top offensive threat, averaging a team-high 12.1 ppg. The Colonials rely heavily on their defense, holding teams to just 60.1 ppg, which ranks fourth best in the conference. Myriam Traore anchors the paint for RMU, averaging just over one block per game.

With postseason seeding on the line for everyone involved, both games are sure to be high stakes and an early taste of playoff basketball.
