INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Horizon League announced its weekly #HLMSOC Players of the Week on Monday, naming Oakland goalkeeper
Cole Thompson the Defensive Player of the Week.
Earning his first weekly award of the season, Thompson delivered two impressive performances in goal for Oakland last week.
He opened the week with his third clean sheet of the season, holding Green Bay scoreless while recording three saves on Oct. 7. He followed that performance with a dominant outing against Milwaukee on Oct. 10, recording a career-high 11 saves to tie the Horizon League's single-game high by a goalkeeper this season.
The redshirt sophomore has helped lead the Golden Grizzlies to the third-lowest goals-against average (0.86) in conference play, allowing just six goals against Horizon League opponents.
Thompson's three shutouts in conference play are tied for the league lead, and he ranks among the conference's top five goalkeepers in saves per game (3.29), total saves (23) and save percentage (.793).
Thompson and the Golden Grizzlies return to the pitch for a rivalry matchup at Detroit Mercy on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 6 p.m.
