Metro Series and Matchup with the Falcons is on the Slate for Men's Soccer

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Men's Soccer looks to maintain its unblemished conference record and take on a non-conference foe as it plays two of its final four matches of the season against Detroit Mercy and Bowling Green.

The Golden Grizzlies remain undefeated in conference play this season, holding a 2-0-5 record in the Horizon League. Despite that unblemished record, Oakland has played to a draw in three straight matches and is looking to turn some of those ties into wins as the season winds down.

In their most recent match, Oakland played Milwaukee to a 1-1 draw on the road on Oct. 10. Cal Kurzawa continued his impressive first season at Oakland, scoring his team-leading sixth goal of the season.

Sitting in third place in the Horizon League standings, a win could move Oakland into first place in the conference, with just two conference matches remaining after this week.

Saturday, Oct. 17 at Detroit Mercy | 6 p.m. | ESPN+

The Metro Series returns for the 26th installment of the rivalry. Oakland hasn't lost to the Titans since 2010 and aims to extend that streak this weekend. In last year's contest, the teams played to a 1-1 draw in Rochester. The Golden Grizzlies also have a 16-year unbeaten streak in road matches against Detroit Mercy.

Detroit Mercy (UDM) has struggled this season, earning just four conference points with a single conference win (2-8-3, 1-4-1 HL). While the Titans have been a middle-of-the-pack attacking squad with seven goals in Horizon League play, they have struggled defensively, allowing 17 goals against conference opponents, three more than the next-closest team.

Johnny Strickler (six goals) and Thero Mitchel III (four goals) lead the UDM attack, while senior Drew Pierson leads the team with four assists.

In their most recent contest, UDM suffered one of its toughest losses of the season, falling 6-1 to Wright State at home. With four losses by at least three goals, the Titans are fighting to keep their postseason hopes alive, and another loss would move them further out of contention.

Tuesday, Oct. 20 vs. Bowling Green | 7 p.m.

Oakland faces the Falcons (BGSU) in its final non-conference match of the season and returns home to begin a stretch of back-to-back games in Rochester.

BGSU (4-6-2, 2-1-0 MVC) has been rolling lately, entering the week on a three-match winning streak. The Falcons most recently defeated Drake 3-1 at home.

With 14 goals scored and 16 allowed this season, the Falcons have maintained a relatively balanced profile. Six players have scored two goals apiece, while Tyson McCoy and Caue Ramos lead the team with two assists each.

Oakland continues its push for a regular-season championship and looks to build momentum during the most critical stretch of the season.
