SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Olivia Hemmila led the way for the OU women's golf team on Sunday, Sept. 28, tying for 11th place overall at the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Classic held at The Warren Golf Course (par-72, 6,233 yds).
The Golden Grizzlies finished the 36-hole event with a two-round team score of 638 (+62), just four strokes behind 5th-place Horizon League competitor Purdue Fort Wayne. After recording a first-round score of 328 (+40), Oakland improved during the second round for a score of 310 (+22), the best of the round following Notre Dame (293, +5) and Youngstown State (297, +9).
Hemmila has now topped the leaderboard for Oakland for two consecutive invitationals. She excelled on Sunday on the par-5s, achieving the best average with 4.25 strokes (average score of -6) per hole. With her seven birdies and even-par score in the second round, the Fighting Irish Classic has been Hemmila's best performance of the season thus far.
Grace Boczar, Lily Bargamian, and Paige Scott all finished within two strokes of one another. Boczar finished the invitational with a score of 161 (+17), Bargamian with 162 (+18), and Scott with 163 (+19). Logan Bentley followed with a final score of 171 (+27). Scott and Bentley had the team's best first-round scores, both with an 81 (+9).
