ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Oakland University women's golf team concluded its season at the NCAA Division I Ann Arbor Regional on Wednesday, finishing 12th with a team total of 934 (+82) at the U-M Golf Course.
The Golden Grizzlies recorded the second-best NCAA Regional score in program history at the conclusion of the three-day tournament. In 2024, Oakland posted a program-best 899 (+35) at the East Lansing Regional, where the team finished 11th. Oakland also improved its overall score by seven strokes compared to its earlier visit to the U-M Golf Course this season at the Wolverine Invitational.
On the par-71, 6,260-yard course, Oakland finished 10 strokes behind Quinnipiac at the end of the three-round regional. The Golden Grizzlies were ahead of the Bobcats through the first two rounds before slipping behind in the final round. Southern California, currently ranked No. 2 in the country, led the regional at one-over-par and advanced to the NCAA Championships in California. Ohio State, Duke, Northwestern, and Texas Tech will join the Trojans from the Ann Arbor Regional to compete for the NCAA title.
Junior Olivia Hemmila led the way for Oakland for the final time this season, tying for 42nd with a 228 (+15). She opened the regional atop the leaderboard, carding a three-under 68 for her best 18-hole score of the season. Hemmila played the first round with only pars and birdies, leaving the course on Monday tied for third overall.
Two strokes behind Hemmila was fellow junior Lily Bargamian, who posted the best NCAA Regional score of her career. Bargamian improved by four strokes over her performance at last year's Columbus Regional, this time tying for 46th with a 230 (+17).
Freshmen Channing Hagen and Logan Bentley competed in their first NCAA Regional, capping impressive debut seasons with the Black and Gold. Hagen recorded the team's only eagle of the regional, reaching the par-four ninth hole in just two strokes during the final round. Hagen and Bentley finished tied for 57th (+25) and 63rd (+33), respectively.
In the final tournament of their collegiate careers, seniors Paige Scott and Grace Boczar served as substitutes at the NCAA Regional. Scott competed in the first round, carding an 83, while Boczar played the final two rounds, posting a 36-hole total of 165.
Marking the program's fifth NCAA Tournament appearance, Oakland continues to steadily improve and showcase its ability to compete with top Division I programs. With highlights such as Hemmila's first-round performance and Hagen's third-round eagle, the Golden Grizzlies demonstrated exactly how they earned their place on the national stage and why they remain a consistent force in the Horizon League year after year.
