ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Golden Grizzlies will travel down to Youngstown State on Friday to compete in the three-day Horizon League Individual Championships, taking place from Sept. 26-28.
Matches will begin at 9 AM on Friday and continue through Sunday. The schedule for Friday and Saturday includes two rounds of singles and one round of doubles. Sunday will feature the singles final, as well as the doubles semifinals and final.
The Horizon League Individual Championships will consist of teams from Cleveland State, IU Indy, Milwaukee, Oakland, and Youngstown State. With a 32-player Singles Main Draw and a 16-Team Doubles Bracket, the winners from each will earn an entry to the ITA Conference Masters Championship in San Diego, CA.
In last year's inaugural Horizon League Individual Championships, Edie Hammond, Nisa Bulut, and Emilia Jarvinen all picked up wins for the Golden Grizzlies.
Nisa Bulut, the returning Horizon League Freshman of the Year, is seeded third in the singles bracket, while Emilia Jarvinen holds the eighth seed. With six Golden Grizzlies competing in the singles and three teams in the doubles brackets, Oakland aims to make a strong showing in the tournament.
