ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Golden Grizzlies women's tennis team will begin the fall segment of the 2025-26 season with the Block E Invitational, hosted by Eastern Michigan for Oakland's first competition of the year.
The two-day invitational will take place Sept. 19-20 at the Chippewa Club in Ypsilanti, with matches starting each day at 9 A.M. Players will be divided into nine groups for singles and four groups for doubles. Each group participates in a round-robin format, with the best record in each group earning the win for the event.
During the invitational, there will be three singles and three doubles matches. On Friday, Sept. 19, players will compete in one round of doubles and two rounds of singles. Competition will continue on Saturday, Sept. 20th, with two rounds of doubles followed by one round of singles.
In its second year, the Block E Invitational will include five teams: Bowling Green State, Eastern Michigan, Oakland, Toledo, and Youngstown State.
The Golden Grizzlies roster includes former Horizon League Freshman of the Year Nisa Bulut, as well as Emilia Jarvinen, Edie Hammond, Martyna Piechowicz, and Tara Montreuil. Newcomers Oliwia Kilmas and Charlotte Holmes will also participate in the event.
Last season, Oakland finished third in the Horizon League standings, earning a spot in the Horizon League Tournament. Bulut and Jarvinen received All-League Honors after their strong performance in the quarterfinals. This season, the team aims to improve its overall record and return to the tournament, held this year at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Cincinnati, OH.
