Golden Grizzlies Bounce Back for Final Road Game of the Regular Season in Milwaukee

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies gear up for their final road game of the regular season as they take on Milwaukee this weekend.

Oakland makes a quick turnaround after a crushing 45-74 loss to Green Bay on Thursday, Feb. 22. In the game, Oakland shot just .279 from the floor, their third lowest field goal percentage of the season.

Shaking off the cold shooting in their next matchup is a must for the Golden Grizzlies, and trends this season indicate that Oakland is in for a much needed good-shooting game. In fact, in two of the three other occasions where Oakland has shot below .270 in a game, the Golden grizzlies shot over .400 the very next game.

We'll see if a big performance is coming against the Panthers on Saturday. In their last meeting, Milwaukee came out with a 67-51 win on the Blacktop. Despite the 16-point margin, Oakland played well defensively, forcing the Panthers into 21 turnovers and only allowing one double-digit scorer in Anna Lutz, who scored 24 points. Both Alexis Johnson and Brooke Quarles-Daniels scored 13 points in the outing, leading the way for Oakland.

With a 10-16 all-time record against Milwaukee, Oakland has won two of their last three games at the Klotsche Center.

In need of a few key wins as the season comes to a close, Oakland is battling for position for seeding in the Horizon League Championship. With three games left to go, if the Golden Grizzlies win out and receive help from other teams, the sixth and seven seeds are within reach, which would clinch a first-round home game for Oakland.

A win and a NKU loss against YSU Saturday would move the Norse and the Golden Grizzlies into a tie for the eighth seed.

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS

Milwaukee enters the game with a 9-9 conference record, sitting in the fifth seed and holding the final spot for a first-round league tournament bye. This game is crucial for the Panthers. With just two games left in their regular season, a win against Oakland gives them 10 conference wins and they escape the race for the eight and nine seeds, but with a loss, they fall in danger of losing the fifth seed and sliding in the standings.

Milwaukee is fresh off a big 61-55 win against Detroit Mercy on Thursday, Feb. 22, where three players scored in double figures and the team shot .431 (22-of-51) from the field.

Kendall Nead was one of the double-digit scorers, going for 16 points (7-of-15), six rebounds, and three steals. Nead, who is a top ten scorer in the league averaging 14.1 points per game, was almost a non-factor in the last game against Oakland. The Panthers will almost certainly need her scoring boost this time around if they hope to come out with a win.

This crucial late-season game goes down at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Klotsche Center in Milwaukee, Wis.
