Women’s basketball releases non-conference slate of action

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Unveiled on Tuesday, September 26, Oakland Golden Grizzlies women's basketball has released their non-conference slate of action for the upcoming 2023-24 season.

Beginning with a November 6 trip to Northeast Ohio to battle the Mid-American Conference's (MAC) Akron Zips, Oakland's entire non-conference slate consists of nine games and is listed below:
 
  • November 6 at Akron
  • November 8 at Michigan State
  • November 14 at Michigan
  • November 17 vs. Cleary
  • November 25 vs. Madonna
  • December 7 at Xavier
  • December 9 vs. Central Michigan
  • December 17 vs. Toledo
  • December 21 vs. Miami (Ohio)

Following three consecutive road contests to begin the campaign, the Golden Grizzlies' first two home games will come against NAIA foes in the Cleary Cougars on November 17 and Madonna Crusaders on November 25.

Oakland's schedule includes two teams who advanced to the Round of 32 in last season's NCAA Tournament in the Michigan Wolverines, who fell to the eventual national champion LSU Tigers, and Toledo Rockets.

The Golden Grizzlies' Horizon League schedule was announced by the conference on August 22 and Oakland will begin league play against the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons at the OU Credit Union O'rena on November 30 at 7 p.m.

Highlighted by 2022-23 Horizon League Freshman of the Year and point guard Brooke Quarles-Daniels, the 2023-24 Golden Grizzlies also return one of the conference's most well-rounded players in forward Alexis Johnson, as well as the scoring ability of Linda van Schaik, both of whom are seniors entering their second year with the program.
