ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland University Men's Soccer and Head Coach Eric Pogue welcome the addition of Oakland University alum Mike Lupenec as a Volunteer Assistant Coach for the 2022 season.

"I am grateful for the opportunity Eric Pogue has given me to work with such a great soccer program at Oakland University, who not only create championship teams on the field, but more importantly top class students in the classroom and high character young men off the field," said Lupenec.

Lupenec comes to the Golden Grizzly family following a 26-year career as the Head Women's Soccer Coach at the University of Detroit-Mercy, compiling a 234-227-41 overall record after starting the Titans' program in 1993 with two conference tournament championships.

"I'm extremely excited to be adding an assistant coach with Mike's high level coaching background and experience to our program, as he'll immediately make a significant impact on our student athletes. As an Oakland University Pioneer alum himself from 1981 to 1983, Mike has a strong passion for the success and tradition of Oakland Men's Soccer," said Pogue, "And with twenty-six seasons of NCAA Division I and the Horizon League head coaching experience and success, Mike's knowledge on and off the field will be impactful to myself and our program helping us continue to compete for Horizon League championships and national recognition year in and year out. Welcome back to the Oakland black and gold, Mike."

Lupenec graduated from Oakland in 1986 with a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources and Development after competing as a Pioneer defender from 1981-1983 as part of the team's that went on to make the NCAA Division II Semi-Finals in 1982 and 1983.
