ROCHESTER, Mich. – On Monday, Oakland University Director of Athletics Steve Waterfield announced the promotion of Nick Pumford to Director of Men's and Women's Golf along with Head Men's Golf Coach duties for the Golden Grizzlies effective May 17.

"I couldn't be more excited to be the Director of Men's and Women's Golf as well as Head Men's Golf Coach. From my first day on campus I knew the resources were in place to make our programs competitive on the national scene and I'm excited to continue cultivating that growth. I want to thank Steve Waterfield for entrusting me with our programs and providing us with those resources. Finally, I want to thank Coach Guss for all she's done for Oakland Golf. She's set a standard we are going to continue to strive for," said Pumford.

Pumford has been serving as the Head Men's Golf Coach for the Golden Grizzlies since June of 2016 after five seasons as the top assistant at the University of Michigan. In 2017-18, Pumford was named Horizon League Coach of the Year with back-to-back runner-up finishes at the conference championships in 2016-17 and 2017-18.

"Nick's promotion to Director of Men's and Women's Golf and Head Men's Golf Coach is well-deserved, and creates a structure that will continue the championship successes Alyssa has led the women's golf program to and maintain the program's upward trajectory," said Waterfield.

Pumford led a stalwart Golden Grizzlies group to a first-place finish in the Horizon League Championship in 2021 as the team traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico for the 2021 NCAA Regionals.

"Though Alyssa's upcoming departure is bittersweet, I look forward to Nick working with the new head women's golf coach to build on the standard of excellence that are hallmarks for both programs.  The future remains very bright for Oakland Golf," said Waterfield.

The Oakland Women's Golf program will be competing in the 2022 NCAA Regionals in Ann Arbor, Michigan from May 9-11 following the team's second-ever Horizon League Tournament title.
