Brennan Sullivan and redshirt senior
Jack Zubkus led Oakland at the annual Tom Tontimonia Invitational on Oct. 5-6. Sullivan recorded the first hole-in-one of his collegiate career, while Zubkus earned a top-10 finish.
The Golden Grizzlies finished fourth as a team with a three-round total of 868 (+16), finishing behind champion Dayton and Horizon League competitors Green Bay and Purdue Fort Wayne, who tied for second.
The Lakewood Country Club (par-71, 7,102 yards) had two individuals record an ace, one being from Sullivan. He aced the par-3 fifth hole during the second round from 183 yards out. Competing as an individual, Sullivan finished the invitational tied for 22nd with a 219 (+6).
Zubkus led the Golden Grizzlies by tying for sixth with a season-best one-over 214. He recorded the team's only other eagle, reaching the 442-yard par-4 first hole in two shots during the third round. Zubkus also posted the field's second-best par-4 average at 3.91 and had the ninth-most birdies with nine.
Seniors Ben Willis and Matteo Rocco each carded a 218 (+5) to tie for 17th. Willis ranked among the top 10 for par-5 scoring average at 4.78 and led the team with 36 pars. Rocco tied for second in the field with a 2.92 par-3 scoring average.
Senior Robert Burns improved after the first round and finished tied for 39th with a 222 (+9). He recorded a 3.08 scoring average on the par-3 holes, tying for seventh. Freshman Marshall Morency finished with a 225 (+12) after recording an even-par second round.
Oakland was the only team in the invitational with two individuals to record eagles. The Golden Grizzlies also posted the field's second-best par-3 and par-5 averages at 3.17 and 4.93, respectively.
With the fall season continuing, Oakland remains in position to build momentum and compete for the Horizon League Championship.
