Four Golden Grizzlies Named CSC Academic All-District

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Oakland University Volleyball student-athletes Patti Cesarini, Jessica Riedl, Madi Ross, and AnnaBelle Tomei were named College Sports Communicators Academic All-District by the organization on Tuesday.

To be eligible for Academic All-District standing, student-athletes must have played in at least fifty percent of the games played in 2022 and post a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher. Below are the Golden Grizzly honorees listed alphabetically by last name.

Cesarini, who has already donned #HLVB All-Academic and First Team All-League honors, gets on the board with a GPA of 3.70. The redshirt sophomore led the Golden Grizzlies in kills and kills per set this past season with 410 and 3.66, respectively, which ranked second in the Horizon League. Cesarini also finished second on the team in digs with 296 total, averaging 2.64/set.

Riedl enters her first All-District honor with a 3.60 cumulative GPA from her undergraduate years as the Des Plain, Illinois native is in her first semester of graduate school at Oakland. Riedl led the front row with a team-high 61 blocks this season, 11 of which were solo, for an average of 0.54/set. Riedl also ranked fourth on the squad in kills with 202 (1.80/set).

The Roanoke, Indiana native Ross entered the Oakland record book earlier this year, moving into ninth all-time in assists as the senior finished second on the team in that category for 2022 with 289 (3.57/set). Ross also proved to be a threat on offense with 62 kills on the year with 31 blocks on the defensive end.

Tomei served as the team's leader in assists this past fall with a total of 520, good enough for 5.00 per set. This puts the West Chicago, Illinois native 12th in the Horizon League's leaderboard for the year as she moves up from seventh to sixth all-time in career assists with 1,884 from the start of the year to the end of the year.

"We are proud of Patti, AnnaBelle, Madi, and Jess for their academic accomplishments," said Head Coach Krista Rice, "Our program has a high academic standard so we are excited our student-athletes are recognized for their dedication and hard work in the classroom."
