Reck Breaks Program Record in Golden Grizzlies' Reverse Sweep of IU Indy

Box Score ROCHESTER, Mich. — The Oakland Golden Grizzlies (6-11, 1-4 HL) defeated IU Indy (8-10, 3-2 HL) in a reverse sweep (15-25, 20-25, 29-27, 29-27 and 17-15) on Friday night at OU Credit Union O'rena. After dropping the first two sets, Oakland won the final three in extra points, taking the third and fourth sets by identical 29-27 margins before closing the fifth 17-15. Oakland finished with 63 kills, 64 digs and nine service aces in the win.

Outside hitter Molly Reck broke the Oakland single-match record with 31 kills, hitting .364,and added 14 digs, three service aces for 35 points. Outside hitter Liv Hosford finished with 15 kills, 10 digs and three aces, as libero Kalli Cook collected a team-high 26 digs and added three assists. Running a 6-2 offense along side Morgin Parsley, setter Delaney Stern tabbed 29 assists, three kills and a service ace from the line.

Oakland kept the first set within a point at 10-9 before the Jaguars created separation with seven straight points, including two service aces and three kills, to go ahead 17-9. Earlier, Oakland started with a block by opposite hitter Ella Schomer and middle blocker Kamsi Iweajunwa, a Stern kill and a Hosford ace while moving in front 3-1. In the next stretch, Reck had a kill from Cook, and Iweajunwa teamed with Hosford on another block that brought Oakland within 10-9. Oakland added late points on kills by Stern and Reck and a Schomer-middle blocker Lillian Frias block, but the Jaguars closed out the set 25-15.

Oakland erased a 10-5 deficit with a 9-0 run, using Reck's serve to move in front 14-10. Reck had three aces during the stretch, while Hosford added two kills, and middle blocker Ellen Zapp also finished a kill as Oakland turned the set around after falling behind 8-2. The Jaguars cut the margin to 14-13, but Hosford answered with two more kills and Iweajunwa added one as Oakland pushed back ahead 19-16. The Jaguars then won seven straight points to take a 23-19 lead, and Oakland could get only one more point before dropping the set 25-20.

Oakland outlasted the Jaguars 29-27 in the third set, converting at 28-27 after a Hosford kill put the home side back on set point. Earlier, Oakland answered a 13-10 deficit with kills from Reck and Hosford and moved ahead 18-17 on a Jaguars attack error. The Jaguars later went in front 22-20, but Oakland pulled even at 23-23 on a block by opposite hitter Maddie Jipping and Iweajunwa before Reck delivered kills at 24-23, 25-24 and 26-25. After the Jaguars tied the set three more times, Hosford's kill made it 28-27 and Oakland finished the set on the next point.

Oakland finished the fourth set by answering a 27-26 deficit with three straight Hosford kills, including the set-closing swing from Cook in a 29-27 win. Earlier, Oakland moved ahead 5-1 behind kills from Hosford, Reck, and Jipping, then kept separation as Reck continued to score and Parsley added an ace for a 16-12 lead. The Jaguars tied the set at 17-17 and later moved in front 19-18, but Oakland responded with an opposite hitter Caroline Moore kill in her season debut, a Jaguars attack error and Schomer's kill to go up 21-19. The set stayed tight from there, with Oakland reaching 24-23 on Reck's kill and 26-25 on Hosford's finish before Hosford delivered the final three Oakland points.

Oakland scored four of the final five points to take the fifth set 17-15, answering a 14-13 deficit with kills from Reck, a Parsley ace and a late block by Moore and Zapp. Earlier, Oakland built small edges behind Reck, Schomer and Zapp, moving in front 7-5 and later 9-7 before the Jaguars kept the set tight. The Jaguars moved ahead 13-12, but Reck tied the set at 13-13 and again at 14-14, and Parsley followed with an ace for a 15-14 Oakland lead. After the Jaguars evened the set at 15-15, Moore and Zapp combined on the block that put Oakland back in front before a Jaguars attack error closed the 17-15 set win.

The Golden Grizzlies and Jaguars are back on the Blacktop for round two of the series tomorrow, Oct. 10, at 2 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
