INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Announced by the conference at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 31, Oakland Golden Grizzlies redshirt freshman goalkeeper Michael Sly, Jr. was named the Nike Horizon League Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
Posting his fifth shutout of the season, which is tied for the Horizon League lead, Sly tallied seven saves in Oakland's draw with the Milwaukee Panthers on October 29, helping the fourth-place Golden Grizzlies secure a pivotal point in the conference standings.
This is Sly's second time receiving this honor in 2022, as he was previously recognized as the Defensive Player of the Week on September 12.
For the year, the Grand Blanc native has appeared in 14 matches, including starting each of the last 13, and paces the Horizon League in goals against average (.875), save percentage (.868), shutouts (four), and saves-per-match (5.75) in conference play.
Sly and his teammates will round out their regular season at home on Wednesday, November 2 at 2 p.m. when Oakland welcomes in the Northern Kentucky Norse.
