MEN'S BASKETBALL LOOKS TO BOUNCE BACK AT GREEN BAY

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland University Men's Basketball will finish its road trip to Wisconsin with a 1:00 p.m. eastern time tip against University of Wisconsin-Green Bay at the Kress Center on Saturday, January 22 as the game will be available on ESPN+ and on TheBet 1270AM with the "Voice of the Golden Grizzlies" Neal Ruhl

Series Note: Oakland looks to bounce back following first HL loss

The Phoenix are coming off a 70-63 win at home against Detroit Mercy as GB has won two of its last three games. At 4-13 overall and 3-5 in the Horizon League, two of its three league wins have come against teams with a losing record up until Thursday night against the Titans. 

Emmanuel Ansong leads Green Bay in scoring with 12.2 per game while just edging out in the rebound category with 5.3 over his teammate, Japannah Kellogg III, who tallies 5.0 a game. GB is also anchored by back-to-back Horizon League Freshman of the Week, Kamari McGee, with 7.4 points and 1.9 rebounds a game, respectively. 

Will Ryan is in his second season at the helm in Green Bay after leading the Phoenix to a 8-17 overall record in 2020-21 while going 8-12 in the conference. 

Jamal Cain is coming off a 17 point, seven rebound game against Milwaukee to level out his scoring-rebounding average to 19.6 and 9.4 per game, respectively. 

Jalen Moore still sits first in the nation in assists per game with 8.2 a game after dishing out nine on Thursday night's loss all the while scoring 14 points in 40 minutes of play with eight rebounds. Moore now averages 15.2 points per game, respectively. 

Trey Townsend is sixth in the country when it comes to minutes per game after notching 16 points and eight rebounds in Thursday's loss through 37 minutes played after playing two full games last weekend against CSU and PFW. Blake Lampman has hit 39-99 (39.4%) of his triple point attempts to lead the team while Micah Parrish is fourth on the team in scoring with 10.6 per game and 6.4 boards per contest.

As a team, shooting has now decreased to 44.3% (482-1089) from the field and 29.2% (130-445) from range. OU is now 2-4 when losing at half time as the team now averages 75.6 points per contest while allowing its opponents to 67.3. 

Oakland is 15th in the country when it comes to shooting from the charity stripe at 78% (267-342) as the team is now the second-best Horizon League team in the country, jumping Detroit Mercy who is now in 16th. At the beginning of 2022, OU was the fourth HL team ranked. 

Townsend is first in the Horizon League in field goal percentage with 55.2% (106-192) while ranking fourth in blocked shots with a total of 21 through 17 games. Townsend and Moore are also first and second in the league in minutes played as they each average 38 and 37.9 minutes per game, respectively. Cain is third in scoring in the league with 19.8 points per game while leading the Horizon League in rebounds with 9.5 per game. 

The Golden Grizzlies dropped 17 spots after Thursday loss to 90th from 73rd in the NCAA NET Rankings. However, Oakland is still the top team in the Horizon League as the team is 57 spots ahead of Cleveland State who dropped to 147th. 

In the NCAA RPI, Oakland is 44th according to CBS Sports. 

Oakland was 12th in the January 17rd edition of Mid-Major Top 25 Poll as voted on by mid-major tier coaches. The Golden Grizzlies were 15th in the last poll on January 10. 

The Golden Grizzlies are now 103rd in kenpom.com rankings playing the 120th toughest schedule in the country and the eighth toughest out of conference schedule.

NATIONAL TALENT
Once again, Jamal Cain sees himself in the mix of national attention with the grad student from Pontiac in more than one category.

THE BEST IN THE NATION
Moore is now first in the entire NCAA in assists per game with 8.2 a game and 140 assists total. Moore was previously tied with Yuri Collins of Saint Louis who is now in second place. 

FIRST HORIZON LEAGUE LOSS
On Thursday, January 20, Oakland dropped its first Horizon League loss in a 10-point defeat to University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on the road at UWM Panther Arena in Milwaukee.

LAMPMAN FOR THREE
Blake Lampman has hit 39 of 99 attempts from range this season for a 39.4% shooting percentage from deep. Lampman drained a career high six three-pointers in Oakland's win over Youngstown State on ten attempts. 

MINISTER OF DEFENSE
Parrish has an average of 6.4 rebounds per game to go with 24 steals and three blocks on the defensive side of the court in his 16 active games. Offensively, Parrish has a scoring average of 10.6 points per game, shooting 43.4% (53-122) from the field and 30.4% (17-56) from range. 

LEADER OFF THE BENCH
Osei Price and Lampman lead the team in scoring while coming off the bench averaging 3.7 and 7.2 points per game, respectively. Price is shooting 42.1% (24-57) from the field while Lampman, as previously mentioned, is 39.4% (39-99) from range. 

HORIZON LEAGUE LEADERS
Oakland is first in the conference when it comes to scoring averages with 75.6 points per game and holding its opponents to 67.3 per game for a margin of 8.3. Cain is third in the Horizon League in scoring with 19.6 per game in his 17 games played while leading the league in rebounding with 9.4 per game. Townsend now leads in field goal percentage with 52.6% (110-209) as Moore naturally leads the HL in assists per game. 

MID-MAJOR SUCCESS
Oakland was slated 12th in the January 17rd edition of the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 Poll as voted on by mid-major tier coaches. The Golden Grizzlies were 15th in the last poll on January 10. 

CHARITY STRIPE SUCCESS
As a team, OU shoots 78.1% (267-342) from the free throw line as the second-best Horizon League team in the country coming in at 15th in the country behind Purdue Fort Wayne in 9th and ahead of Detroit Mercy in 16th.

(at) Milwaukee, January 20, L 88-78
The Golden Grizzlies dropped its first Horizon League game against the Panthers in UWM Panther Arena as Cain and Townsend led the team in scoring with 17 and 16 points, respectively. Moore sent out nine assists in the loss as the team shot 29-36 (80.6%) from the line.

(at) Purdue Fort Wayne, January 15, W 76-68
Oakland was forced to gut out a come-from-behind win against the Mastodons on Saturday, January 15 down 36-30 at the half before Moore sparked a second half takeover with 24 points, six rebounds, five assists, two steals, and a block to remain undefeated in Horizon League play as Cain recorded 18 points in 18 minutes of action.

A 65-60 victory over the Vikings secured Oakland's sixth-straight Horizon League win to claim the top of the conference mantle. Townsend scored 20 points for the fourth time this season as Moore continued to build on his assist legacy with eight. Five total Golden Grizzlies scored in double figures.

Moore finishes his seventh double double performance with 15 points and 14 assists against Horizon League foe Milwaukee as Parrish scored a team-high 19 points, tying a career best, while four other Golden Grizzlies finished in double digit scoring with Cain, Townsend, and Lampman.

A SPECIAL FRIDAY NIGHT
Chris Conway's previous career high in points was two points ahead of OU's game with Ohio Christian. The Naperville, Illinois native earned his first career double double with 22 points and ten rebounds as Trey Townsend got his second double double of the year with 26 points (a career high) and 10 rebounds as well. Emmanuel Newsome made his first start of the season Friday as well tallying eight points, five rebounds, and a steal.

BATTLE IN LITTLE CAESARS ARENA
Moore tallied a double-double in the team's 90-78 loss to Michigan State University with 25 points and 11 assists to his name as Cain notched his second straight contest with 20 or more points, his sixth overall of the season. The squad shot 43.9% (25-57) from the field as the team faces its first, and albeit short, losing streak of the season at two games. 

FUN IN THE SUN
Oakland secured the Gulf Coast Showcase title with wins over Vermont, Rice, and Delaware. All three of OU's victories were decided by eight points or less. The tournament took place at Hertz Arena in Estero, Fla. and featured eight mid-major teams. The winner of the MTE has advanced to postseason play in six of its eight years of existence.

UPSET IN STILLWATER
The Golden Grizzlies earned a 56-55 victory at Oklahoma State in their second game of the season. Moore scored the final seven points for OU in the win. The upset was Oakland's 12th career win over a Power 5 program.

GOOD TO BE HOME
Oakland rolled past Toledo, 80-59, in its home opener at the Athletics Center O'rena. OU outscored Toledo 49-27 in the second half, which snapped a four-game losing skid to the Rockets. Cain exploded for 29 points, 17 rebounds, three steals, and two blocks, while sophomore guard Blake Lampman had a career night, scoring 18 points on 5-of-9 shooting from outside the arc. Moore had a double-double with 17 points and 11 assists.

BACK FOR ANOTHER RUN
Kampe enters his 38th season at the helm of the Oakland men's basketball program. He is the third-longest tenured active coach in Division I, only behind Jim Boeheim (Syracuse, 45 seasons) and Mike Krzyzewski (Duke, 41 seasons). Kampe's 650 career wins rank 12th among active Division I coaches.

PUTTING OAKLAND ON THE MAP
Kampe joined Oakland in 1984 after six seasons as an assistant coach at Toledo (1978-1984). Formerly known as the Pioneers, OU had only six winning seasons in 16 years of competition before his arrival.
