OAKLAND ROLLS IN NIGHTCAP TO SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER AGAINST NORTHERN KENTUCKY

Hill picks up second win of the season on the mound, Elion and Stygles combine for 10 hits

ROCHESTER, Mich. -
After an 8-6 setback in game one, Andrew Hill had everything working in the nightcap fanning eight hitters while allowing only one run on two hits in 6.0 innings of work to pick up his second win of the season. Offensively, Lorenzo Elion hit 3-for-4 with an RBI and run while Drew Collins went 2-for-3 with two RBI, a double, walk and three runs scored as Oakland rolled to a 15-2 win splitting a doubleheader against Northern Kentucky on Saturday at the Oakland Baseball Field. 

On the day, Elion went a combined 6-for-8 with two RBI, a double, and a run while Michael Stygles hit 4-for-6 with two RBI, a double, and a run.

Will Nigut went 2.0 innings in relief out of the bullpen allowing one run on two hits with a strikeout for Oakland (14-24, 8-19 HL) followed by Dan Rutan throwing a shutout ninth inning with no walks, one hit, and a strikeout.

Luke Malmanger went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI while Jared Miller went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a pair of runs scored. Ian Cleary and Brandon Heidal also hit a double each while Stygles went 1-for-2 with an RBI and run.

Oakland took a big lead in the third inning highlighted by Stygles' sacrifice fly followed by a two-run double off the bat of Collins as the Golden Grizzlies scored eight runs on five hits while taking advantage of four Northern Kentucky (15-24, 12-19 HL) errors.

The Golden Grizzlies' offense exploded blowing the game open with seven runs in the fourth inning to take a commanding 15-0 lead highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Malmanger and RBI single from Elion.

Game 2 Notes:
» Elion compiled three base knocks in the game for Oakland.
» Hill struck out eight Norse hitters.
» Oakland's highest-scoring inning was the third, when it pushed eight runs across.
» Oakland grabbed the lead at 8-0 in the bottom half of the third and never lost that advantage.
» Hill put together six innings of one-run ball for the Golden Grizzlies.
» Four Golden Grizzlies had multiple hits in the ballgame.
» The Golden Grizzlies out-hit the Norse at a 12-5 clip.

In game one, Cam Post led the way going 3-for-4 with a triple, RBI and three runs followed by Stygles who went 3-for-3 with two RBI and a walk. Elion also hit 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Matthew Nolin was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going two shutout innings without allowing a hit, with a pair of walks a strikeout.

Oakland took a 2-0 lead in the first inning off RBI singles from Post and Stygles.

NKU rallied with six runs, highlighted by a grand slam home run, take a 6-2 lead before the Golden Grizzlies got back on the board in the second as Heidal came across to score on a wild pitch which brought the deficit to 6-3.

Northern Kentucky built their lead to 8-3 before the Oakland offense got back to work, reducing that lead to 8-4 in the sixth off Elion's RBI double.

Stygles added another RBI single followed by Josh Dudden drawing a bases-loaded walk to pull Oakland with two runs at 8-6 but would not get any closer stranding two runners on base to end the game.
