OAKLAND FALLS IN SERIES OPENING TWINBILL AT WRIGHT STATE

Miller goes 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and three RBI in game one

DAYTON, Ohio -
 Jared Miller had a solid day at the plate going 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and three RBI while Andrew Hill went 3.0 innings not allowing a hit while surrendering only one run off a wild pitch with three strikeouts in the no-decision effort on the mound as Oakland took a 4-0 lead but could not hold off Wright State falling 7-4 in the series opener. In the nightcap, the Golden Grizzlies fell behind early and couldn't get the offense going in a 16-0 setback on Friday at Nischwitz Field.

Drew Collins went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Michael Stygles hit 1-for-4 with a double while  Brenton Phillips also went 1-for-4 with a run. Ian Cleary chipped in going 1-for-2 with a walk.

Oakland (15-26, 9-21 HL) got off to a hot start in the second inning as Stygles led off with a double and scored off Miller's ensuring double. Collins then added an RBI single to left field to score Josh Dudden giving the Golden Grizzlies a 2-0 lead.  

Miller then connected on a two-run double to score Cam Post and Phillips moving Oakland head 4-0 in the third inning.

Wright State (27-11, 26-4 HL) got on the board off a wild pitch in the bottom of the third and then added four runs (two unearned) off reliever Hayden Nierman aided by a throwing error with two outs in the fourth inning to take a 5-4 lead.

The Raiders then added two more runs in the fifth inning to complete the come-for-behind win.

In game two, Cleary went 1-for-3 with a walk and stolen base while Phillips recorded the only other hit for Oakland. 

WSU scored 10 runs over the first three innings and never looked back. Offensively, the Golden Grizzlies drew five total talks but could not manufacture a hit going 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position while leaving eight stranded for the game. Will Nigut was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going two shutout innings while allowing two hits, walking one and striking out one.

Both teams will conclude the series with another doubleheader on Saturday, May 15 beginning at 1 p.m.
