OAKLAND SNAPS SKID WITH SERIES OPENING-WIN AT MILWAUKEE

Konitzer picked up his third win of the season on the mound with five strikeouts

FRANKLIN, Wisc.
 - Bryce Konitzer had a solid effort on the mound giving up only one run on five hits with no walks and five strikeouts in 6.2 innings of work to pick up his third win of the season leading Oakland to an 8-2 series-opening win at Milwaukee on Friday.

Jared Miller went 3-for-5 with three runs scored while Tyler Trovinger hit 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a double and an RBI helping Oakland (10-22, 4-17 HL) snap a five-game skid. Cam Post went 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI while Blake Griffith hit 2-for-4 with an RBI followed by Michael Stygles also hit 2-for-4.

Lorenzo Elion added a hit with a walk with a pair of runs scored. Brandon Heidal chipped in hitting 1-for-3 with an RBI while Brenton Phillips also had one of Oakland's 14 hits.

The Golden Grizzlies got on the board first off Trovinger's RBI double to score Miller in the third inning. Post added an RBI single to score Miller for the second time in the game in the top of the fifth giving Oakland a 2-0 lead.

After Milwaukee (15-21, 12-13 HL) pulled within a run in the bottom of the fifth, Heidal dropped a clutch sacrifice bunt to score Elion from third followed by Griffith with a RBI single scoring Ian Cleary to increase the lead to 4-1 in the top of the eighth.

Oakland then blew the game open in the top of the ninth inning getting four unearned runs as Miller scored for the third time off a passed ball followed by Drew Collins who crossed the plate off a wild pitch. Elion then scored off a throwing error followed by Phillips coming home off a wild pitch to secure an 8-1 lead.

Both teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, May 1 beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
