Tyler Trovinger hit his second home run of the series going 1-for-2 with three walks and an RBI.
Brenton Phillips also went 2-for-5 with a double as Oakland held a late lead but came up short in the series finale at Purdue Fort Wayne, 8-7, on Sunday.
Lorenzo Elion hit 2-for-5 with an RBI while
Michael Stygles hit 1-for- 5 with an RBI.
Seth Tucker picked up the loss in relief going 2.1 innings, allowing one run without giving up a hit, with a walk, and three strikeouts for Oakland (8-11, 2-6).
Jacob Wosinski made his season debut starting the ballgame throwing one shutout inning while allowing no hits.
Trovinger put Oakland on the board with a leadoff home run off sophomore Gerald Pintarich in the second inning. Purdue Fort Wayne (7-8, 4-4 HL) responded in the bottom half with a three-run double to take the lead.
Oakland got a run back off an RBI single from Stygles in the third, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Mastodons.
Oakland held the Mastodons off the scoreboard before rallying to snatch a 4-3 lead in the fourth picking up two runs as
Brandon Heidal scored off a wild pitch followed by a solo home run from Miller.
PFW added a run in the fourth and a pair of runs in the fifth to move ahead 6-4. However, the Golden Grizzlies responded with a three-run sixth inning that was punctuated by a two-run double from Miller followed by an RBI single from Elion bringing the score to 7-6 in favor of Oakland.
The Golden Grizzlies were unable to hold the lead as Purdue Fort Wayne scored twice in the seventh inning off a hit batter and fielding error to move ahead for good at 8-7.
Oakland will host UIC in a four-game series starting on Friday, Mar. 6 at 2 p.m.
