
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Cam Post hit 4-for-6 with a double and RBI while
Tyler Trovinger went 1-for-4 with a home run, walk and two RBI.
Brenton Phillips hit 1-for-4 with a double, walk and three RBI as Oakland could not hold a 12-6 lead falling 15-12 at Northern Kentucky in the doubleheader nightcap on Saturday at Bill Aker Baseball Complex.
Jared Miller also went 2-for-4 with his second triple of the season and two runs scored.
Josh Dudden hit 1-for-3 with three RBI and two walks while
Michael Stygles added a hit, RBI, and two runs scored.
Lorenzo Elion also added an RBI, run, and three walks.
Blake Griffith and Brooks Asker also accounted for one of Oakland's 12 total hits.
Oakland (7-7, 1-2 HL) got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning as Miller scored off a wild pitch after his triple.
After NKU (4-10, 2-5 HL) took a 2-1 lead, Oakland offense exploded for six runs in the top of the third, highlighted by a three-run double off the bat of Phillips and a two-run home run from Trovinger, which brought the score to 7-2 in favor of the Golden Grizzlies.
Northern Kentucky narrowed Oakland's lead to 7-6 before the Golden Grizzlies stretched the advantage to 12-6 in the fifth inning with five more runs. Stygles added an RBI single followed by an RBI single from Post and a bases-loaded walk from Elion to score Miller. Dudden then delivered a two-run single giving the Golden Grizzlies a six-run advantage.
However, Oakland was unable to hold the lead, as Northern Kentucky scored nine times over the remaining four innings to grab the 15-12 win.
Both teams will play the series finale on Sunday, Mar. 14 at noon.
