INDIANAPOLIS – Oakland men's soccer midfielder
Dylan Borczak was named Nike® Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Friday.
Borczak, a senior from Detroit, Mich., knotted three first-half goals to complete the hat trick while adding an assist for a total of seven points to lead Oakland to a dominating 5-0 win over visiting Robert Morris to open the 2021 Horizon League season on Thursday night at the Grizz Dome.
Borczak got Oakland on the board early in the ninth as he took advantage of a bad touch from the Robert Morris (0-1 HL) defender stealing the ball and firing a low left-footed shot to the bottom left of the net past RMU keeper Grant Glorioso. He struck again in the 24th minute as he took
Noah Jensen's long cross from the right side and buried a header into the upper left 90. On his third goal in the 35th minute, Borczak controlled a long ball in from
Ville Ahola from the left side, took a touch and unleashed a laser shot into the upper left 90 giving Oakland a 3-0 lead at the half. In the second half, Borczak assisted on
Owen Smith's first collegiate goal in the 48th minute.
Oakland travels to 2019 defending league champion UIC on Wed., Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. EST.
