FARMVILLE, Va. - Cam Post was just a home run short of the cycle going 3-for-4 with an RBI single, two-run double, and two-run triple for five total RBI to lead Oakland to a dominating 12-0 win at Longwood in the series opener on Friday at Buddy Bolding Stadium.
Travis Densmore picked up his first win of the season tossing 7.0 innings with four strikeouts while not giving up the first of only four hits allowed until the fifth inning.
Dan Rutan struck out the side in the eighth inning in relief while
Cooper Donlin closed the door in the ninth to preserve the combined shutout.
Brenton Phillips went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run while
Josh Dudden hit 2-for-2 with an RBI and two walks.
Lorenzo Elion added an RBI single with four runs scored and a pair of walks.
Jared Miller had a hit with two runs while
Blake Griffith and
Tyler Trovinger each recorded one of Oakland's (2-2) 11 RBI.
Post got Oakland on the board with a two-run double in the first inning for a 2-0 lead.
The Golden Grizzlies added four more runs in the second inning off an RBI single from Elion followed by Post's two-run triple and an RBI bunt single from Dudden to move ahead 6-0.
Post's fifth RBI came in the top of the fourth inning off a single to plate Elion who reached off an error. After Post advanced to third off another error, Phillips drove him in with a single to right center field to blow the game open at 8-0.
Oakland added four more runs in the sixth inning to take a commanding 12-0 lead off Phillips' second RBI single to score Elion. Trovinger then drew a bases-loaded walk to score Post followed by Phillips scoring from third off a wild pitch. Griffith then grounded out to second base to score
Gabe Lux.
Both teams will play a doubleheader consisting of two 7-inning games on Saturday, Feb. 27 beginning at 1 p.m.
