
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Tyler Trovinger went 3-for-3 with a home run, RBI and run scored while
Brenton Phillips hit 2-for-5 with an RBI triple and run scored in game one as Oakland secured its first win of the season with a 5-2 decision at Middle Tennessee State on Tuesday. The win also marked the first career win for Head Coach
Jordon Banfield.
Brandon Deans picked up his first career win on the mound allowing only three hits and one earned run with a strikeout in 5.0 innings of work.
Hayden Nierman closed the door in relief holding the Blue Raiders hitless over 4.0 innings with three strikeouts to pick up his first save in an Oakland uniform. The Golden Grizzlies lost the nightcap to the Blue Raiders, 8-1.
Lorenzo Elion also hit 2-for-5 while
Jared Miller went 1-for-2 with a run and walk.
Josh Dudden also recorded one of Oakland's (1-2) 10 total hits.
Trovinger got Oakland on the board with a solo shot over the right field wall for a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning.
Middle Tennessee State took a 2-1 lead with a pair of runs off a fielding error followed by an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth.
Oakland responded regaining the lead with two runs in the top of the sixth inning off a bases-loaded walk drawn by
Blake Griffith to score Phillips followed by a double play ground out from
Brandon Heidal to score
Reagan Paulina for a 3-2 lead.
The Golden Grizzlies scratched across another run as
Cam Post hit into a double to plate to first base scoring Miller in the seventh to move ahead 4-2.
With two outs in the two of the ninth, Phillips delivered a clutch triple to center field to score Post increasing the lead to 5-2.
In the nightcap, Dudden hit a triple, Post added an RBI single while
Michael Stygles accounted for one of Oakland's three total hits.
Post's RBI single gave Oakland an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. However, the lead would be short-lived as MSTU added three runs in the bottom of the frame off a two-run single and sacrifice fly to move ahead 3-1.
The Blue Raiders then added three more unearned runs in the fifth inning to take a commanding 6-1 lead en route to the 8-1 win.
Oakland travels to Longwood for a four-game set on Fri. Feb. 26 - Sun., Feb. 28.
