INDIANAPOLIS — Freshman outside hitter
Patti Cesarini was named Nike® #HLVB Player of the Week for the first time in her career as the Horizon League announced its weekly volleyball awards Thursday afternoon.
"I am thrilled for Patti to earn player of the week honors as a freshman in our first week of play," 14th-year head coach
Rob Beam said. "She had an outstanding week and put up exceptional numbers. Also, our entire team played well all week from the ball control group to our setters. This is to some degree a reflection of that larger performance as well."
Cesarini totaled a team-best 32 kills, averaging 4.0 per set at a .267 clip in Oakland's series sweep at Robert Morris earlier this week. In her collegiate debut, Cesarini tied for a team-high in kills with 16 to lift OU to a thrilling five-set victory over RMU. Her strong play continued in the next match, as she tallied 16 kills, hitting .429 with just one error in three sets.
On the season, the La Grange Park, Ill. native leads the Golden Grizzlies in total kills (32), kills per set (4.0), and points (32). Cesarini ranks first in the HL in kills per set, second in total kills, and third in points through two matches.
