INDIANAPOLIS – Oakland guard Alona Blackwell was named Nike® Horizon League Freshman of the Week, announced the league office on Monday.
 
Blackwell, a Grand Rapids, Mich. native, posted 14 points going 5-for-9 from the field and 3-for-5 from 3-point range in her first career start helping Oakland rally to a 65-60 come from behind Metro Series win over arch-rival Detroit Mercy which marked the sixth consecutive victory over the Titans.
 
Oakland hosts UIC for Girls and Women in Sports Day presented by the Oakland University Credit Union on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m.
