GAMES 28-29: OAKLAND CLOSES OUT REGULAR SEASON AGAINST WRIGHT STATE FOR ALS AWARENESS NIGHT FOLLOWED BY NORTHERN KENTUCKY

Golden Grizzlies and Raiders tip off on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. on ESPN+ followed by the Norse on Saturday, Feb. 29 at 3 p.m. on ESPN3

ROCHESTER, Mich. -
The Oakland women's basketball team closes out the 2019-20 regular season with a two-game home stand beginning with defending Horizon League champion Wright State for ALS Awareness Night on Thursday, Feb. 27. The Golden Grizzlies then welcome Northern Kentucky on Saturday, Feb. 29 at 3 p.m. presented by Rally House. Both games will be broadcast live from the Blacktop at the O'rena on ESPN+ and ESPN3 respectively with Brad Golder on the call.
 
Last time out: Chloe Guingrich posted her third double-double of the season scoring a career-high 23 points off the bench on 10-of-13 shooting with 10 rebounds helping Oakland to a 86-73 road win at Youngstown State snapping a four-game skid. Alona Blackwell and Kahlaijah Dean each had 13 points while Breanne Beatty and Brianna Breedy added 11 and 10 points respectively.
 
Hot Shooting on the Road: Oakland shot a season-high 32-for-58 (55.2%) from the field at YSU with five players scoring in double figures for the second time since the Golden Grizzlies' road win at Chicago State (11/16).
 
Series History: Oakland leads the overall series 8-7 with NKU winning the last four consecutive meetings. Wright State leads the overall series 16-1 having won the last 15 straight games over the Golden Grizzlies.
 
A look at the Raiders: WSU, the defending regular season and tournament champions, sits in second place in the league standings at 11-5 (16-11 overall). Sophomore Angel Baker leads WSU and is tied for second in the Horizon League in scoring (17.5) and is also tops on the team in assists (3.7) which is second in the league. Junior Tyler Frierson leads the Raiders in rebounds (8.8) which is second in the league.
 
WSU Rewind: Kahlaijah Dean recorded her second career double-double coming off the bench scoring a game-high 22 points with 10 rebounds just missing her career mark by one board as Oakland dropped a 85-66 decision at Wright State in the Nutter Center (1/25). Jalisha Terry and Kayla Luchenbach each scored in double figures with 13 and 10 points respectively.
 
Scouting the Norse: NKU sits in fourth place in the league standings with a 10-6 mark (16-11 overall). Redshirt senior Molly Glick leads the team in scoring (12.2 ppg) while Kailey Coffey is tops in rebounds (7.8) and Ally Niece leads the way in assists (3.7).
 
NKU Rewind: Breanne Beatty, Jalisha Terry and Kahlaijah Dean each scored 11 points as Oakland shot a season-high 8-for-16 (50%) from 3-point range. However, it was not enough to get over the hump as the Golden Grizzlies fell at Northern Kentucky, 69-60, at BB&T Arena (1/23). Beatty and Kayla Luchenbach each grabbed a team-high five rebounds while Dean dished out a team-best four assists. Beatty also connected on a career-high 2-for-3 from 3-point range.
 
Not 1…Not 2…Make it 3 Nike® Horizon League Freshman of the Week Honors: For the third time in a four-week span, Oakland guard Alona Blackwell has garnered Nike® Horizon League Freshman of the Week honors, announced the league office on Monday (Feb. 17). Blackwell averaged 11.0 ppg shooting 9-for-16 (56.3%) from the field with six rebounds aiding Oakland to a 1-1 record in league play. She scored nine points at Cleveland State and followed with 13 points on 5-for-7 shooting helping the Golden Grizzlies to a 86-73 road win at Youngstown State snapping a four-game skid. She earned back-two-back Nike® Horizon League Freshman of the Week honors Feb. 3 and Feb. 10.
 
Blackwell Making Impact in Starting Line-Up: Since being inserted into the starting lineup against Detroit Mercy (2/1), Blackwell has scored in double figures in 6-of-7 games averaging 12.1 ppg while shooting 44.3 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from 3-point range. Defensively, she has grabbed 15 total steals (2.1 per game).
 
Dynamic Dean Strong Off the Bench: Dean leads the team in scoring (11.9 - 10th HL) and assists (3.2 – 6th HL) and scored in double figures in 11 consecutive games coming off the bench from UIC (1/4) through Milwaukee (2/14). She recorded her second career double-double scoring a game-high and season second-best 22 points with 10 rebounds just missing her career mark by one board at Wright State (1/25). She scored a season-high 27 points with six assists while matching a career-best going 9-for-11 from the free throw line against Green Bay (1/9). She also scored 19 points on 8-of-16 shooting and 3-of-6 from 3-point range at St. Bonaventure.
 
Double-Doubles: Oakland has seven players in Chloe Guingrich (3), Autumn Kissman (2), Kahlaijah Dean (1), Kayla Luchenbach (1), Sydney Gouard (1), Breanne Beatty (1) and Alona Blackwell (1) who have produced 10 total double-doubles so far this season.
 
Gettin' Buckets: The Golden Grizzlies have had five players score over 20 points this season with Terry (2), Dean (1) Guingrich (1) and Sydney Gouard (1). Dean has reached double figures in 15 games this season followed by Terry (12), Luchenbach (10), Blackwell (9), Kissman (8), Guingrich (8), Breanne Beatty (5), Brianna Breedy (3), Sydney Gouard (2) and Teneea Heston (1).
 
Charity Stripe Production: Oakland is second in the Horizon League in free throw percentage (75.1) which also ranks 39th nationally. Jalisha Terry also ranks second in the league (83.9) and ranks 45th nationally while Dean ranks sixth (79.2). Oakland went 30-for-34 against Green Bay (1/9) marking the first time the team made 30-plus free throws since posting 36 against Chicago State 21 years to the date on Jan. 9, 1999.
 
Pass/Protect the Rock at the Point: Oakland ranks third in assist/turnover ratio (0.95) while Breedy (2.1) leads the league followed by Dean (1.2) in seventh. The team is also fifth in turnover margin (1.37).
