GAMES 15-16: OAKLAND HOSTS GREEN BAY FOR BREAST CANCER AWARENESS NIGHT AND MILWAUKEE FOR LGBTQIA+ PRIDE DAY

Golden Grizzlies and Phoenix tip off on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. on ESPN+ followed by the Panthers on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 3 p.m. on ESPN3

ROCHESTER, Mich. –
The Oakland women's basketball team opens a four-game league home stand against Green Bay on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. for Breast Cancer Awareness Night presented by United Shore. Fans are encouraged to wear pink. The Golden Grizzlies then host Milwaukee on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 3 p.m. on LGBTQIA+ Pride Day. Both games will be broadcast live from the Blacktop at the O'rena on ESPN+ and ESPN3 respectively with Brad Golder (play-by-play) and Jason Ross (analyst) on the call.
 
Notes:
Last Time Out: Chloe Guingrich posted her second double-double of the season scoring a team-high 14 points with 11 rebounds and three steals while Breanne Beatty added a career-high 12 points as Oakland's second half rally came up short in overtime with a 70-64 setback at UIC (1/4). Kahlaijah Dean also reached double figures for the fourth time with 10 points and four assists.
 
Series History: Green Bay leads the overall series 10-4 and have the last four consecutive games over Oakland. The Golden Grizzlies lead the overall series against Milwaukee 11-9 with the Panthers winning both games last season.
 
History vs Green Bay: During the 2016-17 season, Sha'Keya Graves stole the inbounds pass and rumbled coast-to-coast converting the game-winning layup with 2.2 seconds and completed the 3-point play from the free throw line to secure Oakland's 74-71 upset win on the Blacktop at the O'rena (2/2/17). The win marked Oakland's first home win over a ranked opponent since defeating No. 21 South Dakota State (1/5/09). The win also snapped the Phoenix 11-game win streak and marked the second consecutive year the Golden Grizzlies defeated Green Bay while being nationally ranked.
 
During the 2015-16 campaign, Oakland's 58-56 upset win at No. 22 Green Bay (1/28/16) was the program's first road win over a ranked opponent in the Division I era. The win also snapped Green Bay's league-best 14-game win streak and 16-game home win streak dating back to when the Golden Grizzlies won on (2/4/15) and marked the first time the Phoenix have lost to the same team at home in back-to-back seasons under head coach Kevin Borseth. The Golden Grizzlies completed the season sweep with a 77-69 win (3/5/16) becoming just the second team to sweep the season series over the Phoenix in league play since YSU in 2013-14.
 
Scouting the Phoenix:
Redshirt senior Frankie Wurtz leads Green Bay in scoring (15.4 ppg). Junior Caitlyn Hibner leads the team on the boards (6.1 rpg) while junior Lyndsey Robson is tops in assists (3.0 apg).
 
A look at the Panthers: Junior Brandi Bisping (8.2 ppg) and sophomore Sydney Levy (8.1) led Milwaukee in scoring while senior Lizzie Odegard is tops in on the glass (6.9). Redshirt junior McKaela Schmelzer leads the team in assists (2.6).
 
Double-Doubles: Oakland has had four players in Chloe Guingrich (2), Sydney Gouard (1) and Kayla Luchenbach (1) who have produced four total double-doubles so far this season.
 
Gettin' Buckets: Terry has reached double figures in seven games this season followed by Luchenbach (6) and Guingrich (5). Guingrich also ranks second in field goal percentage (56.2).
 
Charity Stripe Production: Oakland is third in the Horizon League in free throw percentage (73.1) which also ranks 67th nationally. Jalisha Terry also leads the league (88.6) and ranks 18th nationally.
 
Team Leader: Terry also leads the team in scoring (10.7 – 13th HL), assists (3.1 – 6th HL) and steals (1.5 – 6th HL).
 
Guard the Arc: The Golden Grizzlies also rank second in the league in 3-point field goal percentage defense (28.3).
