GAME 21: OAKLAND HOSTS ARCH-RIVAL DETROIT MERCY IN METRO SERIES WHITE OUT GAME

ROCHESTER, MICH. - The Oakland women's basketball team hosts arch-rival Detroit Mercy for a Metro Series White Out Game on Saturday, Feb. 1 presented by Ascension Providence Rochester. The game will be broadcast live from the Blacktop at the O'rena on ESPN3 with Brad Golder on the call.
 
Overall and Metro Series History: The overall series is tied at 15-15 with Oakland winning the last five consecutive meetings and holding a 9-4 mark in Metro Series match ups.
 
Metro Series Dominance: Oakland has won the overall Metro Series each of the past five seasons since its inception in 2014-15. The Golden Grizzlies currently lead this year's standings 11-1 after the men's and women's basketball teams each defeated Detroit Mercy back on Dec. 28, 2019. Last season, the Golden Grizzlies won in dominating fashion by a 30-6 margin. In the event of a tie this year, Oakland will retain the cup.
 
A look at the Titans: Detroit Mercy sits game behind Oakland in the league standings with a 2-7 record and 2-18 overall mark. Freshman Sylare Starks (10.1 ppg) leads Detroit Mercy in scoring while senior Zoey Oatis (9.2 ppg) leads the team in rebounds (6.0). Freshman Annika Corcoran leads the team in assists (2.4).
 
Detroit Mercy Rewind: Chloe Guingrich just missed a double-double scoring a season-high 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting with nine rebounds and two assists while Jalisha Terry reached double figures for the seventh time this season with 15 points and team-high three steals as Oakland upended Detroit Mercy, 71-57, for its fifth consecutive Metro Series win to open league play at Calihan Hall (12/28).
 
Last time out: Kahlaijah Dean recorded her second career double-double coming off the bench scoring a game-high 22 points with 10 rebounds just missing her career mark by one board as Oakland dropped a 85-66 decision at Wright State in Horizon League action at the Nutter Center (1/25). Jalisha Terry and Kayla Luchenbach each scored in double figures with 13 and 10 points respectively.

Double-Doubles: Oakland has had six players in Chloe Guingrich (2), Autumn Kissman (2), Kahlaijah Dean (1), Kayla Luchenbach (1) Sydney Gouard (1) who have produced seven total double-doubles so far this season.
 
Gettin' Buckets: The Golden Grizzlies have had four players score over 20 points this season with Terry (2), Dean (1) and Sydney Gouard (1). Terry has reached double figures in 12 games this season followed by Dean (10), Luchenbach (8), Kissman (7) and Guingrich (6), Alona Blackwell (3), Breanne Beatty (3) and Teneea Heston (1). Guingrich is also tops on the team in field goal percentage (55.9).
 
Charity Stripe Production: Oakland is second in the Horizon League in free throw percentage (75.2) which also ranks 34th nationally. Jalisha Terry also ranks second leads the league (86.5) and ranks 29th nationally. Oakland went 30-for-34 against Green Bay (1/9) marking the first time the team made 30-plus free throws since posting 36 against Chicago State 21 years to the date on Jan. 9, 1999.

Dynamic Dean Strong Off the Bench: Kahlaijah Dean recorded her second career double-double coming off the bench scoring a game-high and season second-best 22 points with 10 rebounds just missing her career mark by one board at Wright State (1/25). She scored a season-high 27 points with six assists while matching a career-best going 9-for-11 from the free throw line against Green Bay (1/9). She also scored 19 points on 8-of-16 shooting and 3-of-6 from 3-point range at St. Bonaventure.
 
Fourth Quarter Closeout:
Oakland is a perfect 8-0 on the season when leading at the start of the fourth quarter and also with five minutes remaining in the game.
 
I'll Take That: Oakland ranks third in steals per game (7.80) and fourth in turnovers forced (15.30).
 
Crash the Boards: The Golden Grizzlies are tied for fourth in the league in total rebounds per game (37.2), fifth in defensive rebounds (26.6) and fifth in offensive rebounds (10.7). Individually, Guingrich (7.3) and Luchenbach (5.1) rank seventh and 20th respectively.
 
Pass/Protect the Rock: The team ranks third in assist/turnover ratio (0.93) while Terry (1.6) leads the lead and Dean (1.1) ranks second. The team is also fifth in turnover margin (0.60).
 
Droppin' Dimes: Oakland ranks third in assists per game (14.3) while Terry (3.1) ranks fifth, Brianna Breedy (2.9) seventh followed by Kahlaijah Dean (2.8) in eighth.
