GAME 23: OAKLAND HEADS TO ARCH-RIVAL DETROIT MERCY FOR METRO SERIES REMATCH

ROCHESTER, Mich. -
 The Oakland women's basketball team concludes their five-game league road swing at arch-rival Detroit Mercy on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast live from Calihan Hall on ESPN3 with Denny Capp (play-by-play) and Tara Fleming (analyst) on the call.
 
At look at the Titans: Detroit Mercy is 3-19 on the season and 1-10 in conference play. The Titans are led by sophomore Lexey Tobel (11.4 ppg) followed by senior Brittney Jackson (9.5 ppg).
 
Season rewind vs UDM: Oakland's 74-67 win on Jan. 4 at the O'rena was the third consecutive over UDM but the Golden Grizzlies still trail the all-time series 15-13. Taylor Jones dished out a career-high 16 assists just missing the game school record by one and almost added a triple double with 11 points and nine rebounds while Chloe Guingrich recorded career-highs in points (21) and rebounds (16). The Golden Grizzlies matched a season-best 24 assists on 30 made baskets. Autumn Kissman also posted a career-high 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting while Kayla Luchenbach added a career-best 13 points going 6-for-7 from the field with two blocks.
 
Metro Series Dominance: Oakland has won the Metro Series each of the past four seasons since its inception in 2014-15. Oakland currently leads this year's standings 10-2 after Oakland's men's basketball win over UDM (1/29). Last season, the Golden Grizzlies won in dominating fashion with a 31-1 margin. In the event of a tie this year, Oakland will retain the cup.

Jones Messed Around and got a Triple Double: Taylor Jones scored 18 points going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line, dished 10 assists and grabbed 10 rebounds to record the program's first triple double since the 2008-09 season when Brittany Carnago posted a 14 point, 10 rebound, 11 block performance at Centenary on Jan. 12, 2009 as Oakland fell short in a shootout at Cleveland State, 98-90 (2/2).
 
Dynamic Dean Named Nike ® Freshman of the Week: Kahlaijah Dean averaged 26.0 points shooting 20-for-31 (64.5%) from the field and 9-for-17 from 3-point range (52.9%) at Youngstown State and Cleveland State last weekend. Against YSU, Dean poured in a career-high 29 points with career marks in field goals shooting a blistering 12-for-18 from the field and 3-pointers hitting 5-for-9 with six rebounds. She followed that performance with a team-high 23 points going 8-for-13 from the field, 4-for-8 from behind the arc and 3-for-3 from the charity stripe with a game-high five steals at CSU. She has scored in double figures nine times this season including four consecutive games (UIC (1/11) – Green Bay (1/20).
 
Block Party: Oakland ranks second in the league in block shots (93) and blocked shots per game (4.20) which ranks 44th and 60th respectively in the nation. Individually, Mercy Agwaniru (1.1) leads the team and ranks fourth in the league while Kayla Luchenbach (0.8) is tied for seventh and Nikita Telesford (0.6) is tied at 13th.
 
Grab and Go: The Golden Grizzlies are second in turnovers forced (17.09) and are tied forth in steals per game (8.70) with Dean ranking sixth individually (1.6) followed by Jones in seventh (1.5).
 
Dropping Dimes: Oakland is tied for fourth in the league in assists (13.00) while Jones is second individually (4.1) followed by Brianna Breedy who is 11th (2.5).
 
Pass/Protect the Rock: Breedy is second in the conference in assist/turnover ratio (2.4) while the team is tied for sixth (0.7) and fifth in turnover margin (-1.10).
 
Team Leader: Jones leads the team in scoring (13.5), assists (4.1), and steals (1.5) and ranks 41st nationally in field goal attempts (337 total - 15.3 per/game).
