ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Oakland women's basketball team opens their final two-game league road swing of the season at Green Bay on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 8 p.m. ET followed by Milwaukee on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 3 p.m. ET. The Green Bay game will be broadcast live from the Kress Center on ESPN+ while the Milwaukee game played at the Klotsche Center is only available through My 24 Sports TV in the local area.
A look at the Phoenix: Green Bay is 16-8 overall sitting in third place at 11-3 in conference play and are led by redshirt senior Jen Laken James (10.4 ppg) followed by redshirt senior Jen Wellnitz (8.7 ppg). The Phoenix lead the all-time series 9-4.
Season Rewind vs GB: For the second time this season,
Autumn Kissman poured in a career-high 16 points while shooting a career-best 8-for-12 from the field as Oakland fell 77-53 on Jan. 20.
Kahlaijah Dean also scored in double figures for the fourth consecutive game with 12 points matching a career-mark going 4-for-6 from 3-point range.
History Against Green Bay: During the 2016-17 season,
Sha'Keya Graves stole the inbounds pass and rumbled coast-to-coast converting the game-winning layup with 2.2 seconds and completed the 3-point play from the free throw line to secure Oakland's 74-71 upset win on the Blacktop at the O'rena (2/2/17). The win marked Oakland's first home win over a ranked opponent since defeating No. 21 South Dakota State (1/5/09). The win also snapped the Phoenix 11-game win streak and marked the second consecutive year the Golden Grizzlies defeated Green Bay while being nationally ranked.
During the 2015-16 campaign, Oakland's 58-56 upset win at No. 22 Green Bay (1/28/16) was the program's first road win over a ranked opponent in the Division I era. The win also snapped Green Bay's league-best 14-game win streak and 16-game home win streak dating back to when the Golden Grizzlies won on (2/4/15) and marked the first time the Phoenix have lost to the same team at home in back-to-back seasons under head coach Kevin Borseth. The Golden Grizzlies completed the season sweep with a 77-69 win (3/5/16) becoming just the second team to sweep the season series over the Phoenix in league play since YSU in 2013-14.
Scouting the Panthers: Milwaukee is 12-13 overall on the season and sits in fifth at 7-7 in conference play. The Panthers are led by freshman Megan Walstad (11.3 ppg) followed by junior Jamie Reit (9.2 ppg). Oakland leads the all-time series 11-8.
Last time vs Milwaukee: Taylor Jones led Oakland with 15 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals going a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line while
Kahlaijah Dean added 14 points and two assists as the Golden Grizzlies fell 79-52 to visiting Milwaukee on Jan. 18.

Jones Named Horizon League Nike ® Player of the Week: Oakland guard
Taylor Jones was named Horizon League Nike® Player of the Week, announced the league office on Monday. Jones averaged 25.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists shooting 20-for-36 (55.6%) from the field and 3-for-7 from 3-point range (42.9%) with two double-doubles against IUPUI and UIC over the weekend. Jones posted her fifth double-double of the season with a career-high 28 points on 11-of-19 shooting while grabbing 10 rebounds with three assists and two steals as Oakland came up short in the upset bid against IUPUI. She followed that performance with her sixth double-double scoring a game-high 23 points while grabbing 14 rebounds and dishing out nine assists to just miss recording her second triple-double of the season while leading Oakland to a win over UIC.
Tungate Sidelined: Due to recent medical issues with his back, head coach
Jeff Tungate has missed coaching the five three games. His doctors have recommended he take time to rest and they will continue to reevaluate the situation. Tungate will remain sidelined until the doctors clear his return. Associate Head Coach
Eric Stephan will continue to serve as acting head coach until Tungate returns.
Moving on Up: Jones now ranks ninth all-time in program history with 1555 passing Melissa Jeltema (2006-10).
So close: Jones' career-high 16 assists vs UDM (2/9) was just one shy of the school game record of 17 held by Margaret Boyle vs. Lake Superior St. (2/28/87) and Dawn Lichty vs. St. Joseph's (3/10/90). In addition to her lone triple double this season, she has missed two more with 11 points, 16 assists and nine rebounds in the same game against UDM and had 23 points, ]14 rebounds and nine assists against UIC (2/16).
Rack Up the Double-Doubles: Jones has recorded six double-doubles this season: (1) 23 points and 11 rebounds at Kent State (11/18). (2) 16 points, rebounds vs Canisius (11/25). (3) 11 points, 16 assists vs UDM (2/9). (4) 21 points, 18 rebounds at UIC (1/11). (5) 28 points, 10 rebounds vs IUPUI (2/14). (6) 23 points, 14 rebounds vs UIC (2/16).
Frontline Efficiency: Autumn Kissman ranks sixth in field goal percentage (56.0) followed by
Chloe Guingrich in ninth (51.0) and
Nikita Telesford 15th (43.8). Kissman posted a career-high 16 points against UDM (1/4) and Green Bay (1/20) while Luchenbach also added a career-best 13 points going 6-for-7 from the field with two blocks vs UDM. Telesford has scored a season-high 17 points three times this season and reached double figures five times.
Block Party: Oakland ranks second in the league in block shots (106) and blocked shots per game (4.20) which ranks 54th and 60th respectively in the nation. Individually,
Mercy Agwaniru (1.3) leads the team and ranks fourth in the league while
Kayla Luchenbach (0.8) is tied for ninth and
Nikita Telesford (0.6) is tied at 14th.
