ROCHESTER, Mich. -  The Golden Grizzlies will return to competition after the holiday break as they head to Western Michigan University to compete in the WMU Ice Breaker Dual on Jan. 5. Competition begins at 1:30 pm and scheduled to conclude at 6:05 pm.
 
Last season at Western, Oakland fell to the Broncos 90-44 as Western took 11 of the 13 events. Kendell Jefferson and Chanel Gardner led the womens team as they both captured the two first place finishes. Jefferson won the 60m with a time of 7.66 and Gardner won the 200m with a mark of 26.02. In addition, Angela Ciaravino and Maddi Leigh placed second in the 60m hurdles (9.28) and second in the 1-mile (5:15.80), respectively.
 
Last time out the Golden Grizzlies recorded seven first place finishes at the SVSU Holiday Open. First place finishers include: Chanel Gardner (400m, 59.14), Rachel Levy (5000m, 16:48.87), Kenton Rivard II (Weight Throw, 53 ft., 1 in.), Andrew Storm (Long Jump, 22 ft., 11.75 in.), Gabby Cyriax (Weight Throw, 53 ft., 1 in.), Jimmie Williams (400m, 48.19).
 
The men's 4x400 relay team of Corey Goodloe, Marcus Nellum, Jimmie Williams and Andrew Storm also placed first with a time of 3:19.39.
