ROCHESTER, Mich. -
The Oakland women's basketball team hits to road for a pair of games at the 2018 Kent State Classic held at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center. The Golden Grizzlies open play against Akron on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 3 p.m. that will be video streamed live on Boxcast followed by a game against host Kent State on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 1:30 p.m. which will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
 
Notes:
 
Jones Gettin' Buckets: Senior Taylor Jones leads the team in points (19.7), rebounds (5.3) assists (4.0) and steals (2.3). During the first two games of the season, Jones led Oakland with 20 points on 8-of-16 shooting at Central Michigan (11/8) and also added a game-high 26 points while dishing a career-high nine assists with six rebounds and four steals to lead the team to a convincing 94-48 season opening win over Grace Christian (11/6). With those back-to-back 20-point performances, Jones has scored 20 points 20 total times in her career and has reached double-digits in scoring 62 times.
 
Series History: Oakland leads the overall series 3-0 against Akron after winning the last meeting between the schools, 79-62, on Dec. 12, 2004. This will be the first meet between the Golden Grizzlies and Kent State.
 
At look at Zips and Golden Flashes: Akron is 1-0 on the season after defeating North Carolina A&T, 49-36, in their season opener. Last season, the Zips went 9-21 overall with a 3-15 MAC mark. Kent State is 0-2 after two setbacks against tough competition at North Carolina (73-60) and at N.C. State (78-61). The Golden Flashes posted a 13-19 overall record with 5-13 conference mark last season. Akron and KSU will be the second and third teams from the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Oakland will play this season after facing CMU earlier this month.
 
Dean Doing Work: Freshman Kahlaijah Dean posted a game and career-high 14 points against Indiana (11/11) and scored 10 points going 4-of-8 from the field and 2-for-4 from 3-point range in her colligate debut at CMU (11/8).
 
Career Debuts: Freshman Teneea Heston scored seven points, with four rebounds, three assists and two steals while Alabama transfer LaKyesha Stennis also added 10 points against GCU (11/6).
 
Guingrich ringing it up: Chloe Guingrich posted a career-high 16 points with seven rebounds in Oakland's win against Grace Christian.
 
Statistically Speaking: Last season, The Golden Grizzlies led the Horizon League in 3-point field goal percentage (34.6), ranked second in scoring (70.4 ppg), assists (14.60 apg) and 3-point field goals made (7.6) offensively. Defensively, Oakland led the league in steals (10.60) while ranking second in turnover margin (+3.60) and 3-point field goal defense percentage (27.6%) and sixth in blocked shots (3.50).
