ROCHESTER, Mich. -- The Oakland baseball team opens Horizon League play with a three-game series at Youngstown State beginning Friday, March 24 through Saturday March 25. The Golden Grizzlies (1-16) are coming off being swept by Indiana State, losing on a walk-off single in the series finale.
Ryan Fitzgerald and
Tyler Janish each hit their first career home runs during the series and
Zach Sterry added a three-run homer of his own to bring his season total to five.
Co-head baseball coach Jacke Healey played at Youngstown from 2009-10 where he earned first team all-conference recognition at shortstop twice, becoming the first player in program history to accomplish that feat. He currently holds the Penguins' single-season records for home runs (12), RBI (59) and runs scored (63).
The Penguins (2-15) dropped a mid-week game to Ohio State 12-8 on March 21 and have wins over Richmond and #17 Georgia Tech.
