ROCHESTER, Mich. - Kyla Kellermann had four shots and Abigail Haelewyn added three as Oakland (6-4-3, 3-1) fell 2-0 to Kansas City (5-7-1, 2-2) on Friday at the Durwood Soccer Complex. The Golden Grizzlies outshot the Kangaroos 18-4.

"Kansas City deserves the win because they scored two goals on set plays," said head coach Nick O'Shea. "Through the flow of the game we dominated and created all the chances and limited their opportunities. Unfortunately, two set plays made the difference."

Oakland controlled the first half and had a pair of outstanding chances to score, including a back-post shot by Jamie Horne that was saved and a follow up effort by Kara Weber that was saved. OU had a 9-3 edge in shots in the first half and 9-1 in the second half.

Despite being on the defensive for most of the match, Kansas City got on the board in the 41st through a set piece. Sarah Todd sent in a long free kick but goalkeeper Shannon Coley could not control the cross and the ball fell to Sophie Rackham who put the ball in the back of the net.

The `Roos added another goal on a set play in the 82nd minute. This time Todd fired a curling shot from just outside the edge of the penalty area to make it 2-0.

"I thought that Abi Haelewyn and Jamie Horne did a good job in the midfield," added O'shea. "We did a good job of getting forward through the midfield."

The best chance for OU in the second half came from the penalty spot, but Nicole DeLuca scuffed her shot wide. Then Sarah Reynolds fired a shot that was saved.

Oakland had a 12-3 edge in shots on goal, but Nina Tzianos made 12 saves to earn the clean sheet. Coley had one save on a breakawy for Oakland.

The Golden Grizzlies will look to rebound on Sunday when they take on South Dakota at 1 p.m.
