ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies played Rochester Christian to a 0-0 tie on Sunday. The Golden Grizzlies finished with 42 shots, 13 on goal, and held Rochester Christian to just two shots. The 13 shots on goal were a season-high for Oakland, and despite several strong chances in the second half particularly, they weren't able to break the dam.
Oakland controlled the first half chances, piling up 17 shots and seven corner kicks while keeping RCU without a listed shot. The pressure started almost immediately with a corner in the first minute, followed by early attempts from
Sophie Schultz,
Ella Shapiro,
Olivia Mehl and
Emma Smith, with Sabrina Kiryakoza saving shots by Shapiro and Smith.Â
Oakland continued to create looks through the middle of the half, including chances from
Isabella Bierod,
Bailey Giddings,
Corinne Jenkins and
Adalyn Cameron, but could not get one past Kiryakoza. The Golden Grizzlies closed the half with another set-piece push, earning corners at 41:13 and 41:59 and adding three shots in just over a minute, before the half ended scoreless.
Oakland generated repeated chances across the second half but could not break through, and the match finished 0-0. Oakland had seven shots in the first 15 minutes after halftime, with Brooklyn Perron saving attempts from
Bella Haynes,
Olivia Norton and
Nicole Grimaldo. Oakland continued to pile up looks from 61:05 to 70:04, adding eight shots and a corner as Perron stopped back-to-back attempts by
Brae Cole and Mehl.Â
The Warriors briefly answered after a 76:54 corner, but
Norah Schmidt saved Laila Vanhoorelbeke's shot at 77:47. Oakland closed with another push from 79:07 to 89:01, adding eight shots and four corners, including three corners in the final 2:14 before Cole's late attempt.
Brae Cole led Oakland with seven shots and put one on goal. Mehl added six shots, including a team-high three on frame. Schultz recorded five shots with one on goal.
Norah Schmidt played all 90 minutes in goal, made one save and finished with a shutout.
