ROCHESTER, Mich. - Sophomore Tommy Jablonski went 4-for-5 with two RBIs, and seniors Dan Ryan and Taylor Traub both picked up two hits and two RBIs as the Oakland University baseball team (5-8) rolled to a 12-6 win over Rochester College on Wednesday on the OU Baseball Field.
After a solo homer by Rochester College's Jeff Pickens opened scoring in the top of the first, the Golden Grizzlies responded by knotting the game in the bottom of the frame on a sacrifice fly, and then taking a 3-1 lead on a two-run double by senior Rob Merkle.
OU pushed its lead to 5-1 in the second inning on an RBI triple by Jablonski, who later scored on an error.
The Warriors got back on the board in the fourth inning, scoring a run on a throwing error, but the Golden Grizzlies once again answered in the bottom of the inning on a leadoff homer by Jablonski. After Rochester College scored a run in the top of the fifth, the Golden Grizzlies exploded for five runs on five hits with two errors, keyed by a solo homer by senior Justin Wilson, as the Golden Grizzlies pushed ahead 11-3.
Rochester College rallied with two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth, and Oakland tacked on a run in the eighth inning to set the final margin at 12-6.
Sophomore Greg Welke improved to 2-2 on the season after tossing four innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits while fanning two. Sophomore Kasey Kearcher tossed a scoreless ninth in the win. Jablonski narrowly missed hitting for the cycle, with two singles, a triple, and a home run.
The Golden Grizzlies will return to action on Friday, March 20, as they travel to Michigan State to open a three-game set with the Spartans. First pitch is scheduled for 3:05 p.m.
