ELMHURST, Ill. - The Oakland University baseball team opened the season with a bang, rallying to take a 17-6 victory over Eastern Kentucky in its season opener, and senior center fielder Justin Wilson was honored for his performance during that contest on Monday, being named The Summit League Player of the Week.
The award, the first issued by the league office this season, marks the first time that an OU position player has earned Player of the Week honors since the 2007 season. Both Andrew Estes and Greg Welke were honored as Pitcher of the Week during the 2008 season.
The Blissfield, Mich. native went 3-for-6 with six RBIs, hitting a grand slam and stealing a base in the win. The final two games of the EKU series were snowed out. OU will return to action with a three-game set at Charlotte beginning Tuesday and running through Thursday. First pitch Tuesday is slated for 4 p.m.
