Golden Grizzlies Fall in Series Opener at Wright State

DAYTON, Ohio — The Oakland Golden Grizzlies (5–18, 3-4 HL) fell to Wright State (10–12, 4-0 HL), 12–4 in the series opener on Friday afternoon at Nischwitz Stadium. The Golden Grizzlies took an early lead with a run in the first inning and added three more in the third, but Wright State's offense surged with 14 hits and was bolstered by a home run and three doubles. Despite Oakland's initial scoring, the Raiders consistently expanded their lead, with scoring in all but two innings.

Junior Ben Clark led with two runs scored and posted two hits, including a double, in his five at-bats. Fifth-year Kyle Revere contributed with two hits and an RBI while scoring once, to up the team's offense. Sophomore Aidan Schuck recorded two RBIs on a sacrifice fly and a hit, as redshirt-junior Sam Griffith added a run and two hits, to round out the Golden Grizzlies' top performers.

Oakland took an early lead in the first inning when Clark doubled down the right field line and was later driven in by Schuck's single to left field. Wright State responded in their half with two runs, highlighted by a triple, followed up by an RBI double.

In the second inning, the Raiders extended their lead with two more runs. The Golden Grizzlies rallied in the third inning with three across the plate. Griffith doubled and scored on a single by Revere. Schuck's sacrifice fly and redshirt-sophomore Tony Konopiots' flyout added two more runs and the tie for Oakland. Wright State countered with three runs in the bottom of the inning, including an RBI double and a sacrifice fly.

The Raiders added one run in the fourth inning on a groundout, making the score 8–4. Another run was added in the fifth off of a throwing error, before and RBI single pushed their lead in the sixth. WSU's Braylen Blomquist homered in the eighth inning, driving in two runs and sealing the home team's victory with a final score of 12–4.

Junior Jordan Dahlof pitched 2.0 innings, giving up seven earned runs on six hits, and struck out two across 50 pitches. Grad senior Ethan Glassman managed 3.0 innings of work, allowing just one earned run on three hits, and also picked up two strikeouts. Senior Jaxson Easterlin threw for an inning, allowing just a run on two hits, and before freshman Josh Rosenblitt saw his third visit to the mound this season, completing 2.0 innings and earning three strikeouts on the day.

Golden Grizzlies will take on Wright State for game two of the series at Nischwitz Stadium on Saturday, March 28. First pitch is slated for at 2 p.m. ET.
