DAYTON, Ohio — Oakland (5-19, 3-5 HL) fell to Wright State (11-12, 5-0 HL) 11–5 on Saturday at Nischwitz Stadium. The Golden Grizzlies managed to score five runs on seven hits, including a two-run fourth inning, but the Raiders' early offensive surge proved decisive.
Fifth-year
Kyle Revere posted two hits at the plate and contributed four assists at shortstop for the Black and Gold. Redshirt-sophomore
Lucas Day delivered two hits and drove in a run as redshirt-junior
Sam Griffith reached base with a walk and recorded an RBI. Redshirt-senior
Jack Lux crossed the plate once and drew two walks for the Oakland offense.
Wright State took a commanding lead in the first inning, scoring seven runs with back-to-back RBI singles to highlight the inning. Oakland's defense committed two errors, allowing additional unearned runs to score. The Raiders extended their lead by two runs in the second inning, driven in by a triple and a sacrifice fly to increase to a 9-0 lead.
Oakland got on the board in the third inning as Griffith walked, advanced to third on Revere's single, and scored on sophomore
Aidan Schuck's RBI single.
The Golden Grizzlies plated two more runs in the fourth inning. Redshirt-sophomore
Boston Halloran walked, advanced, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Griffith. Lux walked and later scored on a stolen base at home. Wright State added two more runs in the sixth inning off of a two-RBI single.
In the ninth inning, the Golden Grizzlies attempted a comeback. Junior
Ben Clark singled and scored on Day's RBI single. Revere also crossed the plate on Halloran's bases-loaded walk. However, the rally fell short as the Raiders secured the win and series.
Senior
Tanner Ware started on the bump for Oakland, facing challenges in his one inning of work, allowing six hits and four earned runs. Sophomore
Wyatt Ruppenthal provided some stability with 4.0 innings of action, giving up four hits and four earned runs while earning five strikeouts and no walks. Junior
Owen Thomson was effective in his inning, allowing just one hit and picking off a runner before senior
Josh Korson and redshirt-junior
Ryan Donley combined for two innings, each allowing one hit and kept the board scoreless for WSU.
Oakland and Wright State will wrap up the series on Sunday, March 28 at Nischwitz Stadium in Dayton. With freshman
Ben Green on the mound for the Black and Gold tomorrow, first pitch is slated for 1 p.m. ET.
