Konopiots, Clark Power Oakland’s 10th-Inning Push in Win at Wright State

DAYTON, Ohio — The Oakland Golden Grizzlies (6-19, 4-5 HL) emerged victorious over Wright State (11-13, 5-1 HL) with a 10-7 win in extra innings in the series finale at Nischwitz Stadium. The game was highlighted by the Golden Grizzlies' three-run surge in the 10th inning, which sealed the win. Their offense was supported by a total of 13 hits and seven walks. The Raiders managed to tie the game in the seventh inning with two runs, but Oakland's late rally proved decisive.

Junior Ben Clark contributed two runs and two RBIs, adding two doubles in the game. Fifth-year Kyle Revere recorded his fourth home run of the season and scored two runs as redshirt-sophomore Tony Konopiots tallied three hits and three RBIs, providing crucial support at the plate. Sophomore Aidan Schuck collected two hits, an RBI, and scored once while also stealing a base to impact the game.

After two scoreless, Oakland took an early lead in the third frame with redshirt-sophomore Boston Halloran scoring on Konopiots' RBI-single to center field. Schuck followed up with a single to right field, bringing home Clark and extending the lead. Wright State responded in the bottom half, capitalizing on an error to tie the game at 2-2 through three.

In the fourth, Oakland regained the lead when a throwing error allowed Halloran to score, followed by Clark's RBI double down the left field line, which brought sophomore Andrew Landis home. The Raiders answered back with three runs, taking a 5-4 lead by the end of the fourth inning.

A scoreless fifth and sixth innings set the stage for a pivotal seventh. Revere began the comeback with a solo home run to left field to knot the score at five. Schuck hit a single, and an RBI single from redshirt-junior Sam Griffith gave Oakland the go-ahead. Halloran's RBI single pushed Oakland ahead by two runs, but Wright State quickly leveled the score at 7-7 by the end of the inning.

The game remained tied through the eighth and ninth innings, leading to extras. In the top of the 10th, Landis singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch, setting the stage for Clark's RBI double. Konopiots then delivered a two-run single through the left side, solidifying Oakland's 10-7 victory and first win over the Raiders since 2024.

Freshman right-hander Ben Green pitched a solid four innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs, issuing one walk and four strikeouts. Redshirt-junior George Hansen pitched 2.1 innings, giving up one hit and two earned runs, before senior Jaxson Easterlin contributed 2/3 of an inning with a hit and a strikeout. Junior Owen Thomson closed the game with 3 innings of perfect relief, going three-up, three-down to earn his first win of the season.

The Golden Grizzlies are back on the diamond for a midweek game at Bowling Green on Tuesday, March 31 at 3 p.m. ET.
