ROCHESTER, Mich. — Oakland (7-19, 4-5 HL) secured a 4-2 victory over the Toledo (15-16, 11-4 MAC) on Tuesday to stay a perfect 2-0 in midweek games this season. The Golden Grizzlies jumped to an early lead with three runs in the first inning, capitalizing on a two-out rally before adding a critical insurance run in the fifth inning. The pitching staff limited Toledo to two runs despite allowing 10 hits, effectively stranding nine runners on base.
Sophomore
Sam Patton contributed two hits, including a triple, and drove in three runs. Fifth-year
Kyle Revere scored twice and hit a double in four plate appearances as redshirt-junior
Sam Griffith showed his running agility with two successful stolen bases. Grad senior
Ethan Glassman delivered a strong performance on the mound, pitching five innings with four strikeouts and earning the save.
Oakland set the tone early with a three-run first inning. Junior
Ben Clark was hit by a pitch, and Revere walked, setting the stage for Patton's two-RBI triple into right field, scoring both. Sophomore
Aidan Schuck then grounded out to second base, allowing Patton to score, giving Oakland a 3-0 lead after the first inning.
Toledo responded in the second inning with an RBI single, before both teams added to their totals in the fifth inning. For Toledo, a sacrifice fly plated a run in the top of the frame, while Oakland extended its lead with Revere doubling to left center and later scoring on Patton's groundout to second. Both teams held scoreless through the final four innings as the Black and Gold secured the 4-2 victory.
Oakland's pitching staff delivered a solid performance against the Rockets. Freshman
Josh Rosenblitt garnered his first career start and pitched 3.1 innings, allowing one run on six hits while picking up three strikeouts to earn the win. Glassman followed with a strong relief appearance, throwing five innings without giving up a run and striking out four, after redshirt-sophomore
Luke Riggs pitched 2/3 inning in relief, but allowed one earned run on no hits.
The Golden Grizzlies are back on the field at The Den to take on Rochester Christian tomorrow, April 8. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
