Justin Wilson (Blissfield, Mich.) went 3-5 with a run scored. Centenary took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first with three straight hits to open the inning. Teddy Saenz led off with a double, followed by a single from Justin Huff. Matt Webb drove Saenz home from third with a single through the left side for the 1-0 edge. The Gents added a run in the second inning as an RBI single by Saenz extended the lead to 2-0. The Golden Grizzlies rallied for two runs in the top of the third to tie the game 2-2. Senior

Kevin Carkeek (Arlington Heights, Ill.) followed with a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Wilson to score from third. Oakland put two runners on base with one out in the fifth inning with a single by senior
Kyle Crepeau (Waterford, Mich.) and a walk to Heath. But Gents pitcher Brandon Fulenchek was able to get the next two batters, forcing one to pop the ball up and striking out the other to keep the game tied 2-2. Andy Shepherd (Rapid City, S.D.) drove in Carkeek later in the inning, followed by a two-RBI single through the right side from Jenison to give OU the 5-2 advantage. The Golden Grizzlies then sent Centenary down in order in the bottom of the inning. The Gents??? Cameron Penny led off the bottom of the ninth with a single. Billy Schmieder (Chillicothe, Ohio), was relieved by junior RHP
Mike Takashima (Rochester Hills, Mich.), who proceeded to strike out the first batter he faced. Saenz then stepped up to the plate for Centenary and struck out swinging at a wild pitch and was able to reach first safely to load the bases for the Gents. But Takashima was able to get the final out of the inning to preserve the 5-2 win for OU. Schmieder scattered seven hits, two earned runs, four walks and four strikeouts to earn the win in 8.1 innings, his longest outing of the year. Takashima earned his third save, surrendering no hits, runs or walks while striking out two in 0.2 innings of work. Fulenchek was charged with the loss for Centenary, giving up nine hits, four runs (two earned) and two walks while fanning two in 7.1 innings. He was relieved by Dakota Robinson, who threw 1.2 innings and gave up two hits and one unearned run while striking out two. Oakland and Centenary will battle once again tomorrow as the Gents host OU in a Mid-Con doubleheader at Shehee Stadium at 1:00 p.m.
