ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland Golden Grizzlies baseball team is headed on the road for their final non-conference weekend of the season, traveling to South Bend to take on Notre Dame May 8-10. Action kicks off Friday, May 8 at 6:30 p.m. ET at Eck Stadium. Jack Rinaldi and Charlie Morris will have the call on ACCNX.
Oakland fell 6–4 at Central Michigan after a late rally came up short in their penultimate midweek game of the season on Tuesday. The Chippewas built an early lead with four runs in the first three innings and added insurance later in the game. The Golden Grizzlies broke through in the eighth and mounted a ninth-inning push, highlighted by a two-run homer from
Kyle Revere, while
Ben Clark paced the offense with three hits and two runs scored. Despite cutting the deficit to two, Oakland couldn't complete the comeback, dropping to 10-34 on the season.
OU topped both in-state Big Ten opponents in midweeks this season for the first time since 2016. The Golden Grizzlies beat Michigan in an exciting comeback, 7-6, on March 24 before taking care of Michigan State in East Lansing, 11-9, on April 9.
The Golden Grizzlies are third in the Horizon League with a team batting average of .271, as junior
Ben Clark leads OU with a .357 average with 56 hits in 157 plate appearances. From the mound, freshman
Josh Rosenblitt leads the Oakland starters with a 5.87 ERA in eight appearances, drawing up 16 strikeouts and a win.
SCOUTING THE FIGHTING IRISH
Notre Dame has put together an up-and-down 2026 campaign, currently sitting around .500 overall with a 24-20 record after opening the season strong against non-conference opponents and earning key ACC series wins over Duke, Clemson, and Stanford. The Irish showed offensive firepower throughout the spring, scoring double-digit runs in 16 games and averaging over seven runs per contest during stretches of March play, highlighted by a 14-11 win at Louisville and a sweep of Clemson. The Irish are led by Mark Quartrani with a .374 average at the plate and 65 hits while Jack Radel is a leader of the Notre Dame bullpen posting a 3.41 ERA in 12 appearances.
The Fighting Irish and Oakland have met 13 times in program history. ND takes the all-time series at 12-1, with the last meeting between these two programs occurring in 2010 with a 13-6 win for the Gold and Black.
