Oakland Heads to Toledo for Tuesday Midweek

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland Golden Grizzlies baseball team is back on the road for a Tuesday midweek game down I-75, to face the Toledo Rockets on April 28 at 3 p.m. ET at Scott Park.

Oakland fell on the road at Northern Kentucky this past weekend, dropping all three games against the Norse.

The Golden Grizzlies opened the weekend series at Northern Kentucky with a tough 30-9 setback on Friday night. Despite the final score, the Golden Grizzlies showed offensive punch early with a five-run third inning and three home runs on the night. Lucas Day led the way with a homer and three RBI, while Aidan Orr and Carter Hain also went deep as Oakland continued to battle throughout the series opener.

In Saturday's second game, Oakland was held to three hits in a 10-0 loss as Northern Kentucky secured the series victory. Ben Clark, Carter Hain, and Landis each recorded hits for the Golden Grizzlies, but the Norse pitching staff controlled the game from the outset and limited Oakland's scoring opportunities.

Oakland closed the weekend on Sunday with another setback as NKU completed the three-game sweep. The Golden Grizzlies continued to compete offensively with production scattered throughout the lineup, but the Norse capitalized on key opportunities to finish off the series.

OU topped both in-state Big Ten opponents in midweeks this season for the first time since 2016. The Golden Grizzlies beat Michigan in an exciting comeback, 7-6, on March 24 before taking care of Michigan State in East Lansing, 11-9, on April 9.

The Golden Grizzlies are fourth in the Horizon League with a team batting average of .265, as junior Ben Clark leads OU with a .326 average with 45 hits in 138 plate appearances. From the mound, freshman Ben Green leads the Oakland starters with a 5.80 ERA in 9 appearances, drawing up 29 strikeouts and a win.

SCOUTING THE ROCKETS
Now set at 20-24 overall, Toledo has dropped only two MAC series all season to Central Michigan and Miami (OH). Troy Sudbrook is now leading the Rocket offense with a .367 batting average and 62 hits. Nathan Leininger is atop the bullpen with a 2.59 ERA and 63 punchouts. UT is coming off of a series sweep against Eastern Michigan at home.

The last meeting between Oakland and Toledo came on April 7, 2026, when the Golden Grizzlies earned a 4-2 midweek victory at home. Oakland struck quickly with a three-run first inning, highlighted by Sam Patton's two-RBI triple, then added an insurance run in the fifth. Patton finished with three RBIs, while Kyle Revere scored twice and doubled. Oakland's pitching staff worked around 10 Toledo hits, stranding nine runners, and Ethan Glassman closed the door with a five-inning save effort to secure the win.
