Women’s Golf Leads Horizon League at Dolores Black Falcon Invitational

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – In the final tournament of the regular season, the Oakland University women's golf team turned in another top-three performance, placing third at the annual Dolores Black Falcon Invitational.

Oakland concluded the 36-hole event with a team score of 631 (+55) at the par-72, 5,911-yard Stone Ridge Golf Club on Sunday afternoon. For the second straight invitational, the Golden Grizzlies finished ahead of all Horizon League programs in the field, with Detroit Mercy (634, +58), Green Bay (636, +60), and Northern Kentucky (637, +61) close behind in fourth through sixth, respectively.

Junior Lily Bargamian led the squad with a top-15 finish, tying for 11th with a two-round total of 155 (+11). She shaved seven strokes off her previous 36-hole season best of 163 (+19), set at the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Classic in September. Bargamian excelled on both par-four and par-five holes, averaging 4.30 strokes on the par-fours and an even 5.00 on the par-fives.

Two strokes back was junior Olivia Hemmila at 157 (+13). The NKU Julie Invitational champion tied for eighth in par-five scoring average with an even 5.00 strokes, and tied for sixth in total birdies with four.

Freshman Logan Bentley recorded her best 18-hole score of the season, firing a one-under 71 to lead the entire field after the opening round. She finished tied for second in total birdies with five, including four in round one, and tied for second in par-five average at 4.75. Bentley closed the event tied for 20th at 158 (+14).

Continuing to showcase her consistency, senior Grace Boczar finished tied for 26th with a 161 (+17) and improved her second-round score by one stroke. She ranked among the top performers in multiple categories, tying for second in total pars (22) and tying for fourth in par-three average (3.13)

In her third consecutive invitational competing as an individual, freshman Channing Hagen tied for 32nd with a two-round total of 163 (+19). She tied for the sixth-most pars in the field with 21 and tied for 10th in par-three average at 3.25. Senior Paige Scott rounded out Oakland's lineup, finishing 50th and tying for eighth in par-five average alongside Bargamian and Hemmila at an even 5.00.

As a team, the Golden Grizzlies tied for first in par-five scoring average at 5.10 and ranked second in total birdies with 14 over 36 holes. Despite a challenging second round across the leaderboard, Oakland held steady to secure its third-place finish and once again stay ahead of the rest of the Horizon League competitors.

UP NEXT: The Golden Grizzlies will look to capture another conference title and complete the three-peat at the Horizon League Championships in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, from April 25-27, after being crowned champions in each of the past two seasons.
