Box Score COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Oakland University (1-14, 0-0 HL) fell to No. 22 Texas A&M University (14-1, 0-0 SEC) on Sunday afternoon with a final score of 12-1 at Blue Bell Park. Oakland picked up eight hits against the Aggie bullpen, including a double, but struggled to capitalize, scoring only in the sixth inning. The Aggies tallied 14 hits with three home runs to secure the victory.
Sophomore
Aidan Schuck collected two hits in four plate appearances, contributing to the team's offensive effort. Junior
Ben Clark recorded two hits and drove in one run, while grad senior
Carter Hain added a double among his hits, finding the gap in the outfield.
Oakland's matchup against Texas A&M began with a scoreless first inning for the visitors. Schuck managed a single, but the inning ended with the Golden Grizzlies stranding one runner. Texas A&M took a 1-0 lead after a walk, stolen base, and an RBI single.
In the second inning, Texas A&M extended its lead to 2-0 with a solo home run before the third inning saw Oakland add another hit from Schuck, but no runs.
The fourth inning was pivotal as the Aggies exploded for six runs. They capitalized on a series of hits, an error, and a fielder's choice, widening the gap to 8-0. The Aggies continued their offensive momentum in the fifth inning, scoring four more runs. A two-run home run and another two-run shot contributed to the 12-0 lead.
The boys in Black and Gold got on the board in the sixth inning. Fifth-year
Kyle Revere walked and scored when Clark singled to right field. In the top of the seventh inning, Oakland managed two hits but did not score, concluding with a run-rule 12-1 victory for Texas A&M.
Senior
Tanner Ware started and pitched three innings, allowing eight hits and eight runs, with three walks and two strikeouts. Senior
Jaxson Easterlin followed in relief, pitching 1.1 innings, giving up three runs off of four hits, while sitting down three batters at the plate. Redshirt-sophomore
Luke Riggs came out of the bullpen for a 1/3 of an inning, surrendering two hits and allowing 1 run before redshirt-junior
Ryan Donley provided a brief but effective relief appearance, ending the inning with a strikeout to the only batter he faced. Sophomore
Wyatt Ruppenthal closed the Oakland defense with a strong performance, pitching a hitless and scoreless inning and earning two K's at the plate.
The Golden Grizzlies will head back to the Midwest and take on Akron for a midweek matchup on Wednesday, March 11. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. ET.
